Snow Sand/Salt chasis washing...
Hey,
Does anyone wash their car's undercarriage...or chasis? I hand wash my car, but was not sure of the implication of the salt and sand? What should I do?
Thanks,
Storm

I do this a few times during the season. I don't know if it really helps but it's cheap and I feel better.

Up here just outside of Toronto, Canada, where they use an awful lot of
not only sand, but lots of salt on the roads, I add the under body wash to
the TOUCHLESS car wash at the Esso when I fill up. Acutally, I do an underbody
wash with any wash from them. Guess it helps to keep the salt damage down
to a minimum.

Considering that all those car wash places use recycled water, that was not run through a reverse-osmosis process (to remove dissolved minerals and salts), I would think that you are just giving your car a salt bath.
With that being said, I just use my garden hose, and rinse down the underside of my car.

Every time it gets above 40 degrees I pull out my garden hose and my best friend the spray nozzle and spend a good hour pressure washing under the car and every wheel well, you wouldn't believe the amount of sand that piles under the car afterwards, it's crazy....

Salt is a killer.
During the warmer winter days in CT., I'll run a hose and lawn sprinkler under my car lengthwise between left /right wheels and pull the hose from under the car to let the sprinkle wash at least some of the salt away. Then in spring I pressure wash the underside to remove any existing salt.
