Smoked a RX-8

the whole race was as simple as, i was doing 35 mph, and this dude with a silver RX-8 cut me off and sped away, so i caught up with him at the following traffic light, when i got to stop at the light, i looked at him and he was like lets do it.
When the light turned green, i flored my gas padel and the start was almost the same, but once i shifted to second, i felt like my car jumped ahead and i was ahead by a car and a half length and the race went on for about half a mile before i got to another light and it was obvious that he can't keep up, when he stopped and i look at him he looked furious and pissed off that he didn't have the sportsmenship to look or wave, and when the light turned green he sped away but with a reasonable speed, because he knew his car was no match for mine.
I'm not into racing at all, and even if i was, i won't use my TL, but i guess you gotta burn some rubber every now and then...
RX-8 PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Since you have killed many cars, I wonder how fast this 04TL could be if you mod it.

Meanwhile, you probably could win them all while others hesitate to floor it, but you don't.

Be glad it was a straight away. If you were to hit the turns bye bye RX-8. Have fun looking at the back of his car.

Since the TL (5AT) has a crappy launch anyways, it is fun if someone wants to race to just barley press the gas off of the line and then floor it at like 3K and fly by them

it could have been one of those overated hp rx8's. mazda overstated some of the numbers for some early cars and had to buy them back.

In my opinion, it is great how they brought back an efficient engine like the rotary for this car......but for the "sportiness" conveyed by the styling and advertising I think the car is underpowered.

efficient? its efficient in hp/displacement but that's about it. i have to agree that the rotary engine is a nice concept and alternative from the traditional piston type but it has too many problems. the torque for these engines are really low and not to mention the reliability. previous gen rx's are notorious for constant fixes and maintenance for the engines.

oh yeah you might have raced the automatic version of the rx8 which is rated at 197hp.

I really don't "get" the RX-8.
The 350z is a much faster car if sportiness is what you're after.
My friend says "but the Mazda has a back seat" and I say yeah, for whom? Little kids maybe.
If you need/want room and sportiness get a TL or G35.
From a marketing perspencive I'm not sure who this car is supposed to appeal to.

So what? RX-8 is still a rear-wheel drive.

RX-8 is a pure sports car, while TL is a near-luxury sports sedan. They are really not in the same class. Plus, there are many sports sedan equipped with V6 engine, but no other rotary engine sports car are there?

Another valid point. Wait till Mazda comes up with a turbocharged version of this car.

there is actually a lot of foot room in the back seat of the RX8. its comparable to a civic coupe back seat IMO.

Ford has so gummed up Mazda to such an extent that is very unlikely they will ever make cars of quality and value. Rx-8 as a pure sports car- Please the compromises all across the car are pathetic. Rotory engines are plaqued with design, emission and efficiency problems.
The design was abandoned for aircraft 25 years ago. GM at one time was planning to go rotary engine big time and invested heavily in the raw materials for catalytic converters
From a design perspective the piston engine is so far superior that if you put the $ into the piston engine you end up with a better end product all way around.

stewie: if youever saw /sat in the back seat of an RX-8 you'd be surprised i'm 6 foot tall and i had NO PROBLEM getting in ond out of the back seat and they were by far the most comfortable back seat i have ever sat in. they are bucket seats that fit just as well as any front bucket i've sat in. and the suicide door to the back seats is pretty cool.

Y does the automatic have so much less HP. the manual has 238. so just the AT wouldn't take 30 HP off would it. i've never heard of such a thing.

Efficient? HAH. It uses about the same fuel than the '04 TL (13L/100km city/18mpg), and get's 73 less HP out of it. I'd hardly call this an efficient design. Rotaries have always been known to guzzle gas.

Compare a 1.3 liter rotary to another motor in its hp range which would be a v6. I have a 93 RX7 that doesn't eat as much gas as my 2004 TL and the REX is highly modded.

RX8 is no match for us. I raced one a month ago (Black RX8) and I was at least 2 cars ahead after going a good 7blocks long. The car looks fast but no competition here!!
