Smashed up my Type - S

So guys,
Today I got in a car pile up and smashed my 08 TL Type-S bad. The whole front bumper, radiator, headlights and hood got smashed in so insurance is going to cover it. I am wondering, since I have this money to fix it, should I hook it up? I want to put a regular a spec bumper on, headlights with cleared deflectors, a new rear bumper (aspec), and maybe some other things. What do you all recommend I do with the situation. Its about $7000 in damage, maybe 4 to fix it completely.

Ouch! Hope everyone is okay. No fun being in an accident. I had one about a month ago. Had to have the front bumper replaced, so not too bad.

Damn, from your explanation it sounds like the car should be totaled. Post pics and let us have a look. Modding sounds like a good idea right now thought

Definitely take advantage of this situation and mod it up with the insurance money!

Totaled!! No way, depending on the state, it normally requires more then 2/3rds the value of the car in damages for them to total. Some states and insurance companies are different, but this is pretty standard. Especially in the economic times we are in. They would rather pay the cost to fix then to replace the car. With the crumple zones on the TL, it is pretty easy to just replace the front clip or the back corners. Just keep that in mind!

It sucks!

He's probably saying he or a outside shop can fix it for 4k instead of the 7k the insurance company is giving him meaning he will have 3k extra for mods. If that is the case, MAKE SURE everything is fixed, be extra careful so you can avoid future problems. Definitely do the Type-S conversion for the rear and front with A SPEC. Get ATLP exhaust than cleared headlights with ZKW, switchbacks, etc... Or save up for the turbo!

of course people are ALWAYS going to recommend to mod your car. There are few times when you will ever have people tell you to not mod your car here.

Uh, it's not that easy to scam insurance. Maybe the shop (if you know them) might waive your deductible (if you had to pay it), but everything they do has to be accounted for. If you didn't have an aspec before the crash, you won't be able to have an aspec after (unless you pay for it on your own). Insurance companies aren't stupid, at least in CA.
