Silly Question But Had to Ask...

If I got what I feel is a good deal on an '07 TL-S (14k miles; $31K OTD) at a Non-Acura dealer; would I in theory be able to take it to an Acura dealer and get that full amount (31K) (maybe even more but doubt it) as trade-in value and maybe put down 3 or 4 more G's (total) and walk out the door with a brand new '08 (or even 07 as long as it's brand new) TL-S? Especially before the New Year?

You have quite a plan there

I would first go to the Acura Dealership and negotiate the price on 08 TLS, come up with a final OTD price, put in on paper. Then you may mention the trade-in to achieve a final good offer. I just really think you can get away with an invoice $ on 08 TLS at $35K, without doing all of that risky work you've mentioned.

Good Luck!

According to KBB, trade-in value for the car is right up there @ about 31k (more through private party). I would probably break even. I've only had the car for a day so far.

I can't believe I didn't notice it! Next time I get a car I will be sure to sit in the backseat too. I called the dealer I got it from to see if he had it there (he ignored my call when I called from my cell that he knew; then I called from my desk phone and he picked up on the first ring - they are all snakes I tell you) and he said he doesn't have anything.

I asked him to contact the original owner of the car; he said he would, but I know he won't.

The $250 is more than likely to come out of my pocket. Unless I go steal it from an Acura loaner.

One more thing to factor in. If you buy the 07, you have to pay the sales tax on it. Figure tax on your purchase price of $31,000.

That is not a good idea. As corvettepoor points out you have to pay sales tax...twice on your purchases. Either keep the 07 you have or sell it private party and then go buy the new 08. If you trade it in you will get hosed. I looked at trade in values from my dealer for my car and I could get $6000 more easily if I sold it private party vs trade in. If you wanted a new car why didn’t you just go buy it in the first place and forget all this trading hassle?

I just felt that $31000 out the door seemed like a good price for the used car. It has 14 k miles, and the 31 includes everything; taxes, title, etc. Price before tax was 28,259. The car had a single owner and was never in any accidents.

New ones I know are listed at 38 on Acura's site, and MSRP is 34 (plus tax which brings it closer to 37-38, especially with NY's 8.625% tax).

I thought it might be possible to turn this car over for a (very small) profit and use that towards the purchase of a new car.

It IS a lot of hassle though so I am more than likely just thinking out loud but wouldn't actually do anything.

the KBB numbers- you have to look at the wholesale LOW number and that is the highest the dealer will pay you- not the KBB retail value

If you bought the car from a dealer and its missing REQUIRED safety eqiupment such as headrest- the dealer is responsible for supplying them. They took a car in without making sure it was right- thats on them- probably knocked the price down they paid because of the headrest!

Sales Tax- most states allow deducting actual sales tax paid over the year, so at least its deductible

Sell it private property. And then use the money to buy the 08.

I'm selling my 99 Maxima private property for AT LEAST 9k. The dealer would give me like 6.5k for it.
