Silly Question

i was having an argument this week with a Honda Accord Owner. he stated to me that when you get a Auto Starter installed they actually have to install one of your keys eaither in the dash or in the engine. i find this to be totally wierd. i searched everywhere but didnt find anything. Has anyone had a autostarter installed and is this true??

Close, but you win!
They install a ~chip~ similar to what the key has inside it- so the car thinks you really are in there. Its part of the Acura security system. The remote starts are setup so you have to insert the key or you cant drive the car off.
Remember to leave seat heat on LOW if doing this- a few minutes with no person in them will reach their temp overlimit

your friend is right in a way. this was true up intill last year, and this method is still being used till today. what they do is, they take ur spare key. its gets mounted into this module made by Directed called the "556uw". this does get stashed under your dash, and when the car is signalled to turn on, its sends a signal to your ignitiion as if there is a key in the key slot and allows the car to start. now the new thing by Directed is like a comp program, instead of using your key, it uses a chip which has the code downloaded from you original key. if ur in the NYC area and looknig for a remote start done the right way, PM ME

yeah man... but most of the installer I've ever spoken to... feel more confident using the module that you insert the "key top" into... I guess there was alot of issues with the "comp program" when they first hit the market and they were having issues with them...

I guess the technology has gotten more dependable as of late...

I actually want a remote start that works with my key fob and be able to open the door with the same remote while the car is on... I've been told that you'll have to use the actual key to enter the car while it's remotely started... I'm currently researching the circuits to let me use the key fob to enter...

AFAIK the heated seats do not function without weight on them.

I was just going to respond to 01tl4tl about this - when I warm up my car in the garage in the morning, I have the seat set to high. The car runs for about 5 mintues before I get in and drive away. I can definitely say the seat is not the least bit warm when I sit in it (so I tend to agree with BG74) that they don't function, but I guess I do it because I think they warm up faster, could all be in my mind though, it may take just as long...

Anyone else with similar experiences?

Auto start is funny... Car turns off when you hit the break... Yet you can pull out a fuse... So that the break lights don't turn on... And away you go

Ps. Steve ur avatar just weirded me the fuckout
