Side Running Lights

Has anyone figured out how to rewire the side running lights to blink with the blinkers? This would be a nice touch to improve the appearance.

I am going to work on it next week when I have some vacation, most important thing is to see if there is access to the wires behind the LED side maker.

It would be much easier if it were only to blink when the parking/head lights were on (simple relay circuit), but most want it to function like normal, plus flash with both the parking/heads on and off.

It is the off part that is difficult, as you need to get power to them AND not back feed any circuits!

The simplest is the typical euro set up, where they are ONLY on with the blinker (one wire, one cut, and two splices)!

Are you guys referring to both the side markers (front and rear)? I thought the front ones were in fact tied in with the signals... are they not?

Yep, the led amber in the back of the front fender is not tied into the blinker in the front 1/4 panel.

Hope to have a kit for it if it is not too much trouble.

Just find the wires and put a relay in line and tap onto the turn signal wires (as long as the LED in the fender will accept 12V). If the LED current needs to be reduced then it's resistor time..

I'll draw a diagram if you need one..

Copter,

Here is the problem, durring the day, you can take a direct feed from the blinker in the front and use a relay to cut power to the LED (so you do not backfeed all the other lights that come on normally with the amber LED). That is easy.

BUT, now when the lights are on, you need to disconnect the power feed from the blinker (as the amber LED is already on) and use the feed from the blinker to turn off the amber LED so that it opposes the blinker.

You sort of need a NAND logic gate (but that would only work if you have a dedicated power feed):

blinker bulb on - parking light on - amber LED off
blinker bulb on - parking light OFF - amber LED ON
bliner bulb OFF - parking light on - amber LED on
blinker bulb off - parking light off - amber LED off

To do this with relays, you need 2 DPDT and one SPST relay, and even then, as LED's are so fast, you can have a back feed on the circuit.

I'll pm you as I think I may start to bore the others

The other thing I am fumbiling with is that many are having problems with the memory seats, and untill that is fixed, I would not want Acura to have an excuse to not to fix things as they can say it is a possible backfeed issue.

I agree with you but the use of diodes would eliminate the feed back problem. PM me and we'll figure it out.

I think it has to do with the flexcapasitor.

I think you mean flux capacitor, but you may be right, nothing that a little plutonium couldn't fix. See ya in the future, OUTATIME!

OK, I said I was working on this and would do it this week, which I did, and yes, they now blink AND work like normal (on with parking lights).

YES - I now have LED AMBER SIDE Markers that blink with the blinker with the parking lights off (in syc with the others) and also turn on with the parking lights and blink OFF with the blinker on (so they are out of sync with the other blinkers, front and rear, like the old GM cars).

Yes it does work, one wire is cut on each side (at the LED side marker).

This retrofit would also work for the rear red LED markers, but this is too bling bling for me.

Intall took about 1 hour each side (you have to remove the wheel and fender liners). Not for the electrically impaired.

It takes a couple of relays and some electrical circuitry to do (so as not to feed back and turn on other lights).

COOL! Who said they can not blink! Will post a movie later, but need someone to host!
