should i get A service now or wait?

hey guys,

right now i'm at 3800 miles and the MID says oil life < 20%. i plan on taking a trip to the DC area over the weekend, roundtrip about 500 miles. should i get an oil change before the trip or wait till after?

basically i'm wondering will i risk damaging the car by trying to get a few more miles out of the current oil life and get the message to do it in the middle of my trip?

also, when i switch from my winter to summer tires later...should i rotate my summer tires since i'm putting them back on even though they only have about 3000 miles on them or just wait till i hit 7000?

thanks in advance

My personal opinion:::: I would change the oil now and when you swap tires go ahead and rotate. Piece of mind during your trip.

I would get rid of the oil as well. put in a synthetic. you are not damaging your car if you wait, but I would get a change. I usually do by 3500 with conventional. With synthetic I go 5000.

The summer tires.. Hmm if you think you are going to get 20,000 out of them and do about 10,000 a season on them I would just put them on without rotating. But that's me unless the car wears the fronts substantially more (and I have not seen this on a tl) then do not bother. I usually run an entire season and rotate them the next year. I find tire rotation a way for people to make some coin, unless it is done for free...
