Should I buy the Acura TL Type S?
I'm currently driving a 2007 Civic with 173k miles, I want to get another car and I came across a 2008 Acura TL Type S with 33k miles at a local Audi dealership, the dealer was asking $26,900, after negotiating and showing them the kbb value, dealer has come down to $23000 +tax for it and won't budge on the price further. So, I wanted to get your opinion, is this a good used car? Is the price worth it?

I can't say if it's a good car or not since I haven't seen it- price wise, KBB gives a range (for my zip) of $22,234 to $24,195, with a median of $23,215. I'd say they're asking a fair price given the mileage (and if it's in very good condition). It's an Acura, so if maintained well and looks good, yes, it should be a good car.

Sounds like a fair deal from a dealership especially with the decently low miles. If it's clean and has a good history go for it. So yes, you should buy the type s. That's a shit load if miles on the civic, damn lol. Think it's time you move closer to work or something haha.

I find it kind of cool when cars get that high up in mileage and keep trucking along. It's cool to see how long they can go before you actually "need" to replace the vehicle.
Aside from that though, pick up the Type-S man. You'll love it!

i agree with JTS. Also, if you do pull the trigger on it, be prepared to visit the gas station more often! but this is assuming you drive a lot based off of your civic's mileage. and for all i know, you could have gotten your civic from a previous owner who drove the crap out of it.

Unless the miles are so low because they only raced it on weekends ....that's awful low miles. As suggested earlier check the history but in all actuality there shouldn't be any history! Oil changes... 22K is fair as was said earlier it's good that it's at a Acura dealership.

How do you always find a way to argue subjective opinion? Considering average annual mileage is 14-15k, I think a six year old car with 33K can reasonably be considered to have "awfully" low mileage.

for reference: i paid 20k for my 2008 with 48k miles,(march 2013) private party and i negotiated down from 24k bc i paid cash. dealers are a rip off, they clean the car up enough that they can trick the average consumer and u get stuck with bs. IMO have ur own mechanic check the car out head to toe. if it was me id neg down to 22k but even at 23 it aint that bad with those miles, but again depends on condition. Mines was almost perfect but i did need to replace front bumper, bc of a crack (covered up with a spec kit) lol
id recommend more info for a az member to give u a better opinion like color interior and exterior condition of exterior interior whether it has the aspec kit etc.

Well it's sort of what these forums are all about. Constructive criticizim I suppose. I also said that because for some reason people think that every fluid needs to be flushed with low miles. A car with 33 some thousand miles doesn't need any special attention. That's all I was getting at. Sorry for coming off sounding like an ass.

As long as these cars can last despite the mileage, I'd still prefer to pay a little more for a lower mileage car that was in very good condition. I guess it all depends on your finances, but even if you pay $23K, you're getting a near new condition (even if 6 years old) car vs. one with more wear/ weathering (assuming it's in very good condition). Just an opinion. Don't forget it listed for something like $38K new.

You are going to see an increase in cost of ownership for day to day driving but it's not that large. The 2 things I would do are:
1. Run VIN past insurance agent to see if they have history on it
2. get the car inspected
And I agree 33K miles I a car bought 6-7 years ago would be 5K a year roughly so that means 1 of 2 things generally speaking
low commute mileage
or
backup/2nd family car
my car is 13 years old and has 134K on it and that equates out to 10.3K a year on average.
I work 3.5 days a week so I do not rack up serious mileage despite my trip being 53 miles round trip.
From April to Oct I drive my car once every 2 weeks or when it rains. Otherwise it's 2 wheels to do my commuting.
My Vino 125 is 7 years old and has 25K on it.
A good chunk of my car's mileage came from driving back and forth to Michigan 2 times a year (2,000 miles round trip + local driving while there) so my commute mileage is the remaining 6K a year

Miles always depend on driver. I had a 00 civic si that I bought in 02 with 22k and sold it in 2013 with 46k. It wasn't my daily for like 5 of the 11 years so what's that 2.5k miles a year average Some people just don't drive their cars like that. Lol

It's 33k. Going to give the benefit of the doubt and say not much could be done too wrong to hurt the car assuming its not salvaged ofc.

Hey man, I went from my Civic Si with over 100,000 miles on it to my 2008 Acura TL type s 6 speed. My Si was a smooth 6 speed and I liked it, but I love my TL!
It is awesome you have that many miles on the civic, I say , be patient, keep driving the Civic and keep looking for the Acura. You really should look in craiglist or autotrader or in your local paper for a private party. You can get the used TL like you are looking at around $20,000 from a private party. The dealer will always rip you off. Try to look around more for a private sale. Good luck!

Wow, you never miss an opportunity to toot your horn about driving a car with only 10,000 miles on it. Nobody cares, get over it. I think it's nice to have a car with high mileage anyway because it shows that you take pride in maintaining your possessions. Bottom line: nobody is going to kiss your ass because your car hasn't been driven. That's like buying a pair of shoes and never wearing them but bragging that they're super clean.

Thats really low miles for the year, i would advise to take it to a trusted shop and inspect that type s.
I'm willing to bet that this was a short cummuter and these types of cars are prone to more overall damage than a high milage freeway car. Just take the precautions and make sure the car is in good condition,maintained well and you're golden! Good luck the Type S is an awesome car!

As for my car I apologize, I do admit I talk about it often, but that's only because I love the car and take pride in owning such a fine example of one. Since I never had the opportunity to purchase a Type S new, this is the closest I could get and it took me a few Type S's before I found the one. Again, sorry for acting like a stuck up prick.
