Should I BUY?

found a 2004 TL, 90K miles, clean inside and out.
13K out the door price after i got them down a little on it.
This is a great price for what i have been watching on the used car websites for the past months.

Issue, i currently have a stick shift 4 cyl. so i'm not sure if its that or if i have read to much into the transmission issue rumors all around.

It shifts clean but just seemed to shift "hard" not sure if its cause i'm not used to a V6 and auto or if i'm paranoid, or if is should be?

Need more info on the car, navi, auto or manual, color, location, carfax?

I say based on just your info alone, 13K is overpriced. You can find better deals out there. I think 04 with 90K can be had for about 11-12K..

KBB '004 with 100,000 miles, no nav, A/T retail $13250, so the $13 OTD is a decent price, providing the car is in excellent condition, tires etc. The TL will shift hard under certain conditions and that is considered normal, as long as it has a crisp shift, no lag, no slipping, its good to go.
Just remember at the magical mielage of 105,000 it will need the timing belt replaced @ $1100 if you can't do it yourself. Possible bargining tool?
Good Luck

First, Welcome to Acurazine.

I think it is a great deal pending a clear title. 13k OTD is like 11k for it, with NAVI, its a no-brainer for me.

The car may need a 3x3 and/or Drain + Fill + 3rd and 4th Gear sensor change.

Searching is the best way to find all your information as there are tons and tons of threads about the same thing. From oil changes, to performance options, and then wheels and body kits, the search button is god. Also for tutorials on installations/maintenance and such the 3G Garage is full of information.

I bought an '06 w/nav with 95k miles the day after New Years for $12,500 to use as a daily driver. I'd say you could do better than that. I found the car on ebay, called the dealer up and the next day I flew down and picked it up then drove it home. Easiest car buying experience I've had and the previous owner whoever had it took great care of the car.

Not a bad deal IMO. These cars last a long time once routine maintenance is performed on time. I bought my 04 with 87k for $12500 last November.

Have the alignment done before you purchase, just to be certain there isn't a mechanical problem that could cost you a great deal of money. Let the seller pay for the alignment, but be present when the shop is checking out the suspension.

No matter what you pay someone will always say the price was too high!!!

More than likely, it's just been a while since the last alignment and there's no issue here. However, I'd look very carefully to be sure there isn't something bent/broken causing the mis-alignment. And yes, definitely have it aligned on their dime before you cut a deal.

I'd also mention your concern over the hard shifting and ask them to perform the 3x3 tranny flush (on their dime), followed by a final test drive to check the alignment and shifting.

And as already mentioned, you'll need to start saving about $100/month for the next year to pay for the "4" (on the MID) service.

dosent sound too bad, $13 sounds like a reasonable price, altough iv sceen them as low as $10/$11 w/simmilar mileage and whatnot. hows the body look? is the interior in good shape? 90k is starting to get up there a little, but not too bad. everyone here is right, when buying keep in mind at around 105k its going to need to be serviced.

i tossed a lower offer at them due to the maint i will be doing within the first year.
gonna sit back and make them come to me or keep searching. Too many TL's out there in such a wide price range with lower miles

Yeah thats the smart thing to do, theres plenty of cars out there and prices only decline over time. Find a high mileage one with the 105k already completed. Thats the route I went and got a great deal. In this economy the buyer has the upper hand.
