hardriven sounds like an ad for viagra. Who or what is a hardriven??? Maybe he/she should be rated XXX instead of being banned. LOL
I really don't know who this dude is or what has been done so I need to know more before I vote.

Let's not start this

I voted NO. Despite the fact that he is a PITA, and clearly does not have much regard for our decision to purchase a TL - he is still entitled to post an opinion.

It is a slippery slope we start down when we start silencing people with polls. IMHO - we are better off ignoring him and just not responding to his posts.

I think this is what he wants. All this attention just for him.

he's not worth it.

If you meet him in person, I think you will find a very uptight yet quiet individual who was pushed around all his life.

lets not make him cry.

I vote NO. It's an open public forum...free speech and all that. Granted, I don't know what he did to piss y'all off. If you ignore obnoxious comments, they will go away. My $.02.

i agree this is a public forum and it should be open to free speech. i hate this censorship issue going around lately and banning him would represent the same type of censorship the Bush is trying to employ. Let him post all he wants and remember to vote Bush out of office.

This forum is for open exchange of information and opinions about Acura TL. But that's not what this guy is interested in. He could care less about the TL. His sole purpose in life is to piss off people!

I much as I despise 1LE for what he does in this forum, at the moment I have to vote no. If we had posted rules in this place about acceptable behavior and what constitutes grounds for banning, then maybe.

IPs will change, but his hostname will not. That is what would need to be banned.

Yes, I agree with free speech but I don't agree with continually hi-jacking threads, instigating arguments, repeated name calling, re-posting the same thing over and over and over. He does not participate with the rest of the forum, he only trolls and tries to find a thread where he can try to take someone else's words and twist them to his advantage to show how smart he thinks he is.

For some of you who don't know, go do a search on his name. He is the common denominator in all posts gone south. Get intersted in a thread, and boom, there he is telling everyone how wrong their opinions are. (stating his as fact)

I voted no. From (some) of the posts, he`s got a little, I`ll say it again, a little, interesting information that seems logical.

As long as we know WHO it`s coming from, we can take it or leave it.

As much as I despise Harddrivin1LE's incessant and obnoxious babble, this is supposed to be a forum to discuss differing viewpoints whether or not we agree with him.

As much as I hate to say it, he has as much right to express his opinion in this forum as anyone else.

Keep in mind that if we all ignore his posts and stop responding, at some point he will get tired of his game, and crawl back under his rock.

Just my opinion.

Regards,

Would I like to see him off? Yes. Some of his posts are annoying.

But, unless someone is doing something against the rules, you can't ban a person.

Would harddrivin1le like to defend himself?

There are only a few members of the board who continually engage this guy in "debate". I have had the guy on ignore for almost a month now because he annoys me and I have better things to do than argue with him. Never join an arguement with a fool, others may not be able to tell the difference between you and the fool. Ignore him and he will not annoy you, stop replying to him and I won't have to see his quotes.

I voted yes. Ultimately, the vote doesn't really matter; the owner/moderator's of this site are free to ban him or not at their discretion. If I was the owner of the site, I would ban him. His repetitive posts waste bandwidth, which costs money. They also drag down an otherwise excellent site. But, I put him on my ignore list as soon as I found that feature in the software.

Guys, if we vote to ban him, he'll gain a thousand pounds. All the cardio he gets from posting 17-paragraph-long nonsense is keeping his weight in check. I don't know about you, but I can't keep that on my conscious.

Arrow Veto.

Sorry, I like your posts, but disagree this one. IMO, sometimes someone may act as B, but I think he still has right to input his ideas. I also admire his efforts to keep doing so.

So far, he only focus on some certain threads and makes those threads long and stinky, however, he's not always talking about BS if you check it carefully. He may exasperate ppl, but he has rights to do so as long as it's not against this forum's policy.

I ever saw some G sites banning dislike members' accounts and IPs, which looks like a gang of robbers trying to convince everyone of that what they say goes.

If our democracy decides Yes, that's the way it would be. I'll follow.

This discussion, and banning him from the forum, has nothing to do with a constitutional right to free speech (which applies only to governmental entities and does not apply to private actors). That being said, I agree that too many people who are annoyed by him end up engaging him in silly discussions. I tend to skip over his posts. I vote neutral.

Both host names and IP addresses change depending on your provider. Banning does nothing.

BTW - I voted no. Not because of the above, but because all he really does is express his opinion. He doesn't personally attack anyone and has decent online manners. He's not like others that were banned, where they really went off the deep end. (unless I missed something...)

I'm not voting one way or another, but I am going to offer some views to those who think this is a public forum and he has the right to free speech.

This is not a public forum. It is a business that someone owns. They derive their income from advertising, selling products - whatever. It is not paid for by the members, tax dollars, grants - whatever. It is a business. And whoever owns it has the right to make decisions on who participates on it based upon their conduct - specifically within the rules set forth when you register.

I have thousands of posts on another forum that has banned several people for not abiding by the rules. If someone posts a new thread that I don't want to read, and the title of the thread tells me what it's about, then I have no one but myself to blame if I open it and don't like the message. I will say that in the case of hardriven1LE (or whatever), I think he detracts from the threads because he begins posting on matters that have absolutely nothing to do with the thread. This becomes counter productive to the people who actually are wanting to benefit from the thread's intended topic. I think the moderators should take control of that aspect of his behavior. Whether they ban him or not is up to them.

But remember, this is not about free speech - that is the most abused constitutional "right". This is not a public forum - nobody here has any "rights". The owners of this business get to decide that.

I agree with all points jjsC5. If hardriven1le's sin is that he hijacks threads, then he should be told that it's not the right thing to do. He should start his own side thread and leave the original thread to that thread's owner.

I didn't even know there was an ignore feature! That will be turned on extra primo good Mr. Coleman sir!

I believe that he has the right to speak his opinion, but if you view a thread as a conversation between a few people, and this guy steps up and butts in, thats fine. Now the guy starts grabbing your shoulder to get your attention to yell in your ear & drag you off of the original topic. You try to get back on topic but now he's turning someone else around to engage them in his own conversation about something else. What do you do now? Walk away maybe? How about this guy doing this to you and your friends everyday at the water cooler at work? How could you deal with it? If he stayed on topic and attempted to contribute to the conversation already taking place, but was annoying as hell, you could deal with that. But this is not the case. His forced opinions and lack of courtesy do not promote productive conversations.

Again, ban or not ban, as long as this ignore works then I don't care one bit.

I voted no. That said...

What would happen if, say, there was no internet and we were having a regular gathering of TL owners in a meeting place open to the public. The participants enjoy it immensely, chat with each other, learn from each other, and just in general benefit from the community.

One day some guy parks his Camaro with Rhode Island plates out front, walks in with a stack of Hot Rod magazines under his arm. He joins a few conversations, seems OK at first, but then starts questioning people's knowledge without apparent reason. He starts waving Hot Rod magazines in people's faces. Gets caught in some factual and logical errors and begins denying he said things that everyone heard him say. He repeats himself, and violently agrees with people while telling them they don't comprehend things. All the while, he's getting louder and louder and more insistent and continually waving his Hot Rod magazines in people's faces. And he keeps coming back and doing the same things day after day after day.

People try to ignore him, but he gets louder and louder, shouting at people, taking random pot shots at them, still waving his magazine. He's so obnoxious that it's really not possible to just ignore him.

How would that be handled in "real life"? Would you just go home and give up that activity that you enjoy? I doubt it. The community would make the situation uncomfortable for him such that he began to behave himself, or he left.
