Shortage of TLs in Salt Lake City

I am vacationing in Salt Lake City from Florida. Back home my dealer had about 40 TLs in stock.

I took my family to the Acura dealer in SLC to show them what my new car looked like. The dealership is new, big, and impressive. We drove all through the lot looking for a TL. There were NONE. Plenty of RSX's, TSX's, and MDX's. NO TL's.

I saw a salesman, rolled the window down and asked him where the TL's were. He said, "What you see is what we have: None. They are all presold. We only have one demo and you need an appointment to drive that. We can put your name on a waiting list. This marvelous car is so hot, we cannot keep one in stock. The price is MSRP plus a dealer fee of $500. We have a little room to negoitate, but not much."

I'm starting to understand what our California members are talking about. In the mountains here in Utah, it is a seller's market.

Is this the situation in any other areas?

Its the same in Oregon. I sold Hondas for a while and we sold S2000's for $38,000 simply because we could.

There are still 2 month waiting lists for the MDX from what I've heard and I rarely see a TL on the lots.

I live out here in SLC. I got my black on black with navi for 34,041. But I did have to wait for about 6 weeks for my car to get delivered. But still worth the wait. I think that $500 that you were talking about is a deposit not a dealer fee on top of the car. Were you talking to Jody Wilkinson Acura? Becuse those guys requre a $500 deposit and the other dealer in SLC requres a $1000 deposit if you want to buy the there.

TLs galore

Not the same here in Cincinnati - with ten Acura dealers within two hours' drive, they are dealing... S

Yea, same problem here in lower Michigan. There are plenty of TL's without navigation. However, purchasing a TL with navigation is a little more difficult. I have been waiting for almost 2 month's now just to get the color combo I want. I also hardly see any TL's on the road as well. Think I have seen maybe 6 2004 TL's in the last 4 month's on the road. Acura needs to meet demand more efficiently.

Talked to the dealer at 56th South and State Street in Murray. Mike something-or-other.

I live here in SLC, and I bought my TL from Mike Hale Acura too.. I bought mine for about 35, they required a $500 deposit, and i had to wait about 7 weeks for mine, but when I bought mine, the TL barely came out, actually I made the order before they even had any TL's, I also bought a RSX type S from them, they are also short of Type S too. You're right they dont have very much TL, cause usally all they ones they have are being bought left and right.

My morning run took me from American Fork to Provo - about 12 miles along State Street (89). All that time, I only saw one (1) TL, a white one, on a major busy road.

The dealer had a Redondo Red customer car in for service. That makes a total of two (2) I have seen for the week I have been in SLC area. 90% of the people around here drive Ford or Chevy pickup trucks.

I live in Orem and have only seen 3 TLs on the road since the 04s were introduced.

I went to Mike Hale Acura about two months ago and they had about 7 TLs on the lot. But, of course, that was two months ago. They seem to be a lot hotter now....

That's how it was in DC last Fall when it first came out. Some customers couldn't understand it since no other cars in the same class of vehicle were in that situation, but they had to face the reality of it when they realized it wasn't BS. =P

Just got back from CA. I was in the Palm Springs area and decided to pull into the area Acura dealer, Desert Acura on Rt 111 in Cathedral City to see if the new RL came in. It was about 9:00 PM. The salesman told me that the 1st one came in that morning and lasted 6 hours before it was out the door .... at a $5,000 markup above MSRP! He also told me they sell TL's at $1995 above MSRP because the people in that area don't flinch and routinely pay it because of the law of supply and demand. He went further to say he recently got $10,000 for an A-Spec add-on that some guy bought for his girlfriend, grand total for that Navi 48,000!!! When I asked how far away the nearest Acura dealer is, he said 60 miles.

I commended him by saying "If You've Got Customers Willing to Get Suckered Like This, More Power To Ya"!!!

first RL in Atlanta sold in 3 or 4 hours for over MSRP - but then again it's the collusion capital of the US.

I had to wait 6 weeks for mine, bought it a Mike Hale Acura in Murray. I am under the impression they aren't ordering enough for the deman, thus keeping prices very stable on them.
