shmooked a 3000 gt...

so im on my way home from a friends house, i have to make a u turn so im sitting a the intersection and a 3000 gt pulls up across the way... the light turns green i bust a u turn and im on my way. its like 10 miles from their house to mine on fairly deserted roads (especially at 1 am). so im just crusing alone at about 60 (speed limit is 55) when the 3000 comes up behind me... he flashes his lights twice pulls along side and blips it a bit.

i decide it might be fun to play with him a bit. i didnt see if it was the turbo or not, but i didnt really care either way. from a roll it would be a good fight even if it was. so i turn of my vsa i take it out of 6, i blip the throttle to rev match the downshift. i guess he thought that was the go. i hear him open it up. i quickly slam it into 3rd and stand on the throttle. by now he has a godd 1/2 to 3/4 length on me, the tl is right at 4500 rpm, lower then id like to be but pulling all the same. this gives me the oportunity to see it was just a regular non turbo 3000 gt. by the end of thrd i had caught and put a 1/2 length on him. and after the shift to fourth i back off, at just over 100 mph.

i begin to slow as there is a light 1/2 mile or so up ahead that is red, he pulls up along side. i slow to about 40 mph and put the car in 2nd... just as i figured the light switched as soon as we approached it. i wait just a moment to hear him jump on it again. this time since im in gear and ready, his car jumps out and then is imeadiatly swallowed back by the tls acceleration. i pull him hard through second and third i dont even bother with forth since im at least 5-6 car lengths by this point.... i slow back down to 55 (speed limit) and he pulls along side.

its a 97 gt with a 5 spd manual, he has an intake, headers and exaust.... the car has 218hp and 205tq stock, and god knows how much with the mods he has. and it weighs about 3200lbs stock. (so the tl is a bit heavier) he said he thought he had me since he pulled me the first time, he asked if i would run him again, i said sure....

lucky for him a light changed and we came to a stop. we chatted for another moment. when we saw the light about to go green we both turned to our work... i reved the tl up to about 2500. the light went green, i got an absolutly awsome launch, i feathered the clutch just enough to maintain traction, speed shifted to second (which broke the tires loose again). and just raced it up the power band. by the end of second i had prorbably 4 lengths on him. and the gap was widening. i short shifted all the way back to 6th and cruised for the rest of the trip. he did a flyby and gave me the thumbs up with a beep...

it was a good run all around for the tl...

ONAGER, Your a very descriptive writer. I just read your post and was getting all into it, way to emotional for me. What are you a college student? J/K. Anyways, damn- I thought those were pretty fast, cuz' I used to have a 1st gen mitsubishi eclipse w/ intake, bov, boost controller, exhaust. I thought it was pretty fast, and still some of those vr4's would take me. Wonder what we have on those? Anyway, I just got that aem. Buy one! they're bad-ass!

one of a few friendly races.
Most people end up in rage if they loose.

that was a great run with a happy ending.

He raced a V6 model not a turbo'd VR4. No wonder he won they are slow.

They are all 3.0L V6's. Some just have twin blow dryers attached to them

Well it was a good race against a modded 8 year old piece of iron. The twin turbo model would have made it more interesting for sure... At 1 AM... be careful out there a lot of people are juiced up at that hour...

Yeah I know that. I was just stating that it wasn't a turbo'd VR4 (only comes turbo'd). Plus a VR4 would have put the smack down on the TL.

Yeah...those VR4s are fast. I think at least a high 13sec. car
Plus i think they're AWD.....now that would have been a race.

No surprise you smoked him. The regular 3000Gt is a dog. The one with the "Twin Blow Dryers" is a beast. A friend of a friend had a VR4 that he modded to get more boost. Needless to say that car was very fun.

I laugh everytime someone says their car is so awesome because it comes with factory turbos and how it can beat everyother car out there. Give the TL some factory "Twin Blow Dryers" and see how good it could be...

should could woulda. I don't think it would be as impressive as you might think. first the TL isn't made with forced induction in mind. The compression ratio is too high to run at the boost levels most Modded turbo charged cars run at. Second all that power through the front wheels is no fun.

Using your same analogy, what would happen if you used that same money it spent on your twin turbo and beefed up TL tranny with VLSD to handle all the troque steer and used it on a stock VR4.

It's not to say that a TL couldn't be modded up to have crazy horsepower but you have to respect the combination package of the twin turbos and all wheel drive that the VR4 comes standard with.

Yeah it would be a whole lotta going no where FAST and all the smoke that goes with it.

And you would be less 2 front tires

They say it's awesome because it is awesome. It's just like TL owners saying how awesome the new TL has 270hp rather than the 225hp ones.

FACT: TL doesnt come with any sort of FI. So, it's pointless to talk about it.

I've seen more of mid 13 second 1/4 mile runs from a stock vr4..
the later models come with 320hp/315tq with a 6spd and the pervious models come with a 5spd and a little less hp..300hpish.

If it was a vr4 you would've gotten pulled on plain and simple, even if it was from a roll on.
