shifting 1st - 2nd at low RPMs ...
Hi!
Some times ago I posted a thread about my troubles with shift to second. The shift wasn't smooth and I could feel sycnhros doing their work even though I didn't force it and took my time.
My TL now has just a little more 1000 miles and it's still there. But what I noticed todat is that if i shift on pretty low RPM, the sticks gets in really smooth. But that happens when I shift from 1st to 2nd around1600-1800 RPM which seems to be to low. Where do you usually shift from 1st to 2nd ? Do experience anything like that shifting around 2500-3000 RPM ? It looks like throttle by wire doesn't let RPM fall down enough for a smooth shift ...

I never bother to shift into the next gear below 3000rpm except for maybe 5th to 6th at high speed for cruising.
The throttle not letting the RPM fall is your imagination. (or a bad ECU) The 6MT does rev matching, so when the rpm needle falls and sticks for 2 seconds, thats supposed to be the exact match of RPM to the next higher gear. (This is how I can shift from 3rd to 4th without touching the clutch at all and no grinding)

get going in first gear and rev it up to 3000 rpm, engage the clutch and hold it there for at least 2 seconds, pay attention to your tach. you will notice that the tach will not drop to idle immediately, but rather, it will hold the RPMs for the next upshift. when this happens, upshift to 2nd and release the clutch gently. try it and you'll see what rev matching means.

but thanks for the tip, i'll go check out what exactly my tach is doing when i press on the clutch ...

They dont drop nearly fast enough for any kind of spirited driving. But if your just cruising along and not cranking through the gears it works. And I've found if I try to enter the next gate without the clutch pressed a little too early, it wont let me.
