Shift knob for you TL-S 6MT owners

I was calling S2R today and saw this on their site. I think it would look good with the red gauges etc...

http://www.skunk2.com/mm5/merchant.m...gory_Code=FTSK

And its only $51.25!

Just an FYI...

The only problem with that shift knob is it will burn your hand during summer.

It's worth the hot hand.

Take out the red in the pattern. It'll look even better!

With this, GMSFM and Comptech SS is pure butter shifting.

I like the CircuitHero and Maven Mark one shift knobs better.

The skunk 2s were still nice though.

haha same...

pros: weighted, good size, nice finish, red lettering

cons: third degree burns in the summer, frostbite in the winter, and dead sexy in the spring & fall

final say: go for it. but 51.25 is a little expensive. go look for a cheaper price and do a price match with jhpusa.com. i got mine for about 43 shipped

I actually have the Maven Mark One, and it costs more for it than the Skunk2 knob, and I do burn my hands on hot days (so much so that sometimes I drive with a mf towel on the knob ), but it is worth it for me. It looks nice:

$12 on ebay

I cut a hole in a tennis ball and cover the knob when it's too hot or too cold.

Bringing this thread back from the dead...so what shift knob did you end up getting?

I'm contemplating upgrading the OEM knob as well to something more substantial. I had my heart set on the Skunk2 and even though I love the GM finish, I'm wondering if it'll look "off" from the rest of the light aluminum trim? Anyone have a clear pic of their Skunk2 shifter that isn't overexposed as the earlier pic in this thread?

I'll post mine that I got from the CNC guy. I gotta get to a computer, can't do it on the iPhone.

Awesome knob, heavy and goes great with the short shifter.

Yeah, I was wanting to get one of those as well but i thought that there were problems with the run/maker and they weren't being produced beyond the first few?

Looks amazing and feels amazing!
The color difference isn't that bad... I think? lol.
I'm not bothered by it... Passengers who notice seem to like the GM knob too.

Never mind i have more:

Removing the red paint in the shift pattern improves the looks as well.

Is there any way to lower how high up our shifter sits? I think thats the thing I hate about our cars. I hate how high the shifter is.

Yeah, he did a great job and it seems to accomplish what I'm looking to do as well. And I'll finally get to use that tap & die set that I bought 5 years ago!

It looks like on his TSX the shifter is more straight than our TLs. Our TLs curve to the passenger side. Am I right?

I think he said he started with the 12 mm and progressed down to the 10mm little by little.

Yeah, the shifter stalk on the TL does jog to the right but there's a good inch or so before it does. I would just shorten mine by 3/4" or so....not too low. Just enough to tighten up the throws.

Maybe I can find a spare shifter stalk to try some things on. I want to drop mine down about 3 inches

A question to people that already have these installed:

After installation, our shift boots have a metallic ring right BELOW the OEM shift knob where it "buckles" in to the OEM knob. Does the skunk one rattle after installing? Is there a way to put on and not have the shift boot sag? Thanks!

I usually use my phone to browse as I do not have internet at my new appartment (i moved out).
I can take pics of my knob in brighter lighting and post them once I head back to the Uni.

The ring on the boot does not fit perfectly. The jam nut is a bit larger in diameter than the ring on the boot. At least mine was.
What i did to solve this issue was take a round metal filer and filed very lightly against the ring. Unfortunately, I filed a little too much. Now the ring will not stay ob half the time. However, it was a good fit for a short while.just be careful on how much you file. If you do it right, it will hold very well.
Also, there are no rattles.
