Shaved Door Lock Mod Part Source! (3G Garage #E-022)

Hey guys.....I was just checking out A of E Parts on ebay and they have added the part for the door lock "shave" mod for $8 + $4 shipping (same as I paid)! You cant beat that cost for a cool look....link here

I just thought that everybody might want to know....this guy at A of E just keeps adding stuff for us....best ebay vendor around! Check his feedback...you will see my name riddled all over it "MichaelBenz" for the past year or so....Scott never fails to provide A+ service!

No problem! I figured that everybody would want to pick one up given how cheap they are and how easy the mod is to do (takes 1 minute!) I even thought about buying several of them and trying to resell as I figured people would pay more than $8 for it.....but glad A of E stepped up to the plate for us as a community for an easy source for this part! Props to A of E on ebay!

Question

Guys,

Does anyone have a pic of this item installed. I went out to seee my car and I can't envision this item installed. Maybe I'm just dumb, but a picture is worth a 1000 words. Thanks.

There's loads of pictures here, but just look at your back door handle, and the front door handle will look just like it.

But here's a picture in case your TL doesn't have a back door

And before someone asks, and for future readers, tell everyone how easy it is to remove the cover if your keyfob doesn't work or your battery goes dead.

Very easy...in a worst case scenario you could probably grab the cover and bend it snapping off the clip that holds it in.

Great mod at a cheap cost....and your right, very easy to do and undo if ever necessary. The fact is...you could easily use the key in your hand to get the cover off if you needed it...and I bet do little damage to it in the process!

I just installed the piece last night.
Being that it was not a well lit area, it still only took 5mins.

The installation is extermely easy. I didnt' even break the stock clip.
If anyone needs to see pics of the installation let me know.

I'll post pics of the end result.

Wristband? I got ripped! I got no wristband! (lol) :rippedoff

Actually...I think they just got a huge shipment of those in and now they are throwing a free Acura wristband in every order until they are gone!

No...I would just put it with my Lance Armstrong/Pacers/Colts/ect

OK...the pile of em that I have now that I dont wear ever ever ever ever! (lol)

OK...you got me....I just like free stuff! The neices do like that kind of stuff though....I tend to give em to the brothers kiddies (having none of my own yet).

Good point though! But free is good! But we all know the fact that nothing is actually free these days!

Note...I think Scott is on Vacation as his Ebay stuff is temporarily down......he will be back soon and the part will be back up within a few days to a week I am sure......he doesnt like to sell stuff when he is away as they dont ship out the same day as you would expect...so he closes the site for a bit and reposts when he gets back in order to assure top service.

I clicked on your boys link and it is not there anymore. Do you know if there is any other place I can pick those up at? They are sick.

Thanks,

He has all his auctions on vacation status....see previous post. Be patient...they should be back in a week or so. Or...you can order one from your local dealer...they will be similar cost....a few bucks more maybe. I think my dealer quoted me $12 a while back before I got one from Scott.

i think $12 is the same price from the dealer as the ebay auction after shipping. sucks don't it? it makes the decision to call acura and see if its in stock and picking it up easier than waiting a couple days to get it through mail.

note* aofeparts closes his auction/store every weekend.

I know what you mean......in my case....he had it in stock and my dealer had to order it though.....although my dealer said they could have it by that friday....I dont trust em. Discounts are more widely spread the more money you spend for the most part...so you arent gonna get a huge spread on a $8 part from what retail was....although if you just look at the spread between $8 and $12 that is fairly significant percentage-wise....in this case...you about wash it with the postage though. BUT...in the case of many more expensive parts....you end up with quite a savings. SO...bottom line for me was....I didnt have to leave my house and it showed up by Friday anyway for the same cost I would have had to go down to the dealer and mess with it on special order.

I am not clear on the installation concept. Guessing you use a small screwdriver and, with padding, just pry at the split line between the cylinder lock cover and the handle. Can any body confirm this is the way to go? Thanks.

Yes....that is the way to go. The only thing you remove is that actual plastic cover...there is a tab where it hooks up you can see when you pull the handle out.

I am a new TL owner and I haven't went out at looked at the car since reading this so this will sound like a stupid question. Does the passenger side not have a keyhole lock? I'm just wondering if you need to buy two of these things, one for each side. Thanks.

No...the driver side is the only one with a keyhole in it....and you use one identical to the BACK SIDE DRIVER DOOR as the replacement....makes body lines match up then.

You should go outside and look at your doorlock covers on your car currently and ask yourself this question. It is an OEM part....? Same as what is on there now? I guess I would say the paint quality is good? (these arent painted at the dealer...factory done)

This is a great idea,
Just this past friday some asshole tried to break into my car at the local park and ride. The never made it in but beat the shit out of the lock and did some minor bending on the door. My guess is they were using a flat head and a hammer. I was considering doing this and now most likely will. Maybe it will be a deterent for future attempts.

BTW, the police showed up and found that there were over 20 cars damaged. They said Hondas and Acura are one of the hardest to break into . Atleats my Valentine one, cds, and Oakleys were safe.

This was a good post. I got the part and replaced it on my car in about 10 minutes. Easy to do.
The color matched perfectly as well.

Thanks for the heads up!

I thought about doing this mod, until I remember I do use my key to roll up my windows a few times when I was walking away from the car and notice that I forgot to close one of my windows.

Since I didn't do the mod "Using FOB to remotely close all windows", I probably leave my key hole alone, so I can close all windows from outside without getting into the car.
