With our transmissions.. anytime is a good time to do a fluid change. I hear from very knowledgeable members that the fluid goes through some strong thermal wear which may be leading to deteriorating tranny life..
btw.. how you liking the red top? I'm thinking about going yellow top this week but not sure if I'll be needing it since I may not be pushing too much aftermarket components.

Thanks for the advice on the Redtop.. My battery died last night (Acura OEM).. it's ironic because I think our batteries are produced by Delphi who make some decent batteries.. I was at Autozone and I noticed the Duralast have a Yellowtop too with 750 CCA.. lol.. It was $70 cheaper though.. hmm.. Where did you score your Redtop? Price?

I don't think thats right. A1 is definetly NOT Trans Fluid change. Best place to look is *always* the Owners Manual.

The Honda/Acura procedure for a "flush" is to drain and refill 3 times. Each drain (IIRC) is ~3 qts. Drain 3 qts - Refill 3qts - short drive using all gears - repeat 2 more times.
Once search comes back up there are threads on this. Or look here:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-garage-faq-3g-tl-newbies-553554/
The only thing most people seem to agree on is DON'T USE FRAM. Too bad the Honda/Acura OE part (15400-PLM-A02) is, probably, made by Fram.
Use Mobile1 M-104 or M-110 or Honda/Acura 15400-PLM-A01 (if you can find it) or 15400-PCX-004 (S2000 filter). Many others of reputable make.
When search comes up use "PCX-004" in the search terms - there is a particlular thread where this filter is deconstructed and many other filters are discussed.

Kind of odd since mines was changed. I had to do service A13 together along with 2 recalls.

Yes, as confirmed in this thread. A1 is just a oil and filter change and tire rotation, nothing to do with transmission.
I'm getting the "A1 service due soon" message on my TL now. I'm bringing my TL to the dealer for the oil change but...... depending on the price, I may let them rotate my tires too.

Ah HA!!
It wasn't the "A1" it was the "3". "3" = "Replace Transmission Fluid".
IOW "A1" does not equal "A13".

BigBlackTL,
All of the above is why I asked how many miles were on your TL,
Sure the A1 in the manual stands for oil/filter but the MID doesn't know all...
At 50K I would perform the trans service, check and possibly replace the belts, flush the brake system if you haven't previously, air filter, cabin filter, and perform a slew of other checks like brake pads and fuel system lines, hoses etc etc. Some of which you may have already done previously.
All of which you can perform yourself.
Have fun!
Cheers

I know that A13 = A1 + A3 though...

Click the link in my post = Owners Manual Maint Section. All the "A", "B", "C", "1", "2", "3" stuff is there. And so is the stuff that is strictly mileage/time based.
That plaque was either A1 or it was wrong - .
Regardless, you got Oil, Filter, Rotation, Trans Fluid for your A13 service and that is correct.

I don't have adobe or a PDF reading program.... so I'd have to view the owners manual on another comp. thanks though.
It's just... now I'm confused. lol.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I saw some newer members like myself that would probably get freaked out if they saw this message come up after owner their TL's for a few days. lol
Looks like I need to change my oil and read the manual about resetting the reminder.
I would've thought the dealer would have done this, maybe they did and didn't reset? Ah well, can't hurt. I'll pick up a filter from Acura Tuesday when they put my rear door handle cap thing on and change a few bulbs in the steering wheel.
This site is very easy to search, I have a feeling ownership is going to be somewhat painless.

I'll take a glance at it but will change it sometime this week, I'd like to get my preferred brand in there and start on my strict OCI's anyways.
Following religious changes I pulled my last car's oil pan off @ 175K and there was not one ounce of sludge so I'm going to carry that habit to the Acura.
I might just do 5K intervals instead of 3 though, after I change it I'll see how it looks at 3K and go from there.

sorry...that may have come off harsh...i've seen a few of these threads and people insist on mileage intervals, when acura's do not follow a mileage interval for oil changes and most other regular maintenance items. if you don't have the owner's manual...buy one. the MID is accurate...assuming the previous owner followed it. maintenance intervals on acura's are seemingly idiot proof as long as the person takes the car in to get what it needs done (ie follow the MID). enthusiasts are just more in tune with these types of things along with the noises and feel of the car.

Use synthetic and MID.
follow your MID. that's what its there for. the car will tell you when an oil change is necessary (among other things). the 3k mi change is old school thinking. unless you like throwing money away and wasting motor oil.
