Seriously BAD... Fuel leak
I started my car, backed out of my driveway, started to go down the road and smelled a strong whiff of gasoline. So I backed up and pulled back in my driveway to find gas pouring down the front of my gas tank, all over the exhaust system. In a few seconds of having the car running I had a 5 foot pool of gas under the car. If my wife had taken the car, she wouldn't have noticed and kept going. This could have been really bad. The car is currently at the dealer and they just called me and said that they found a fuel line has split and they ordered the part. By the way, "Acura Roadside Assistance" would not tow the car because of the fuel leak, which only leaked while the car was running, (they wanted me to call the fire department to have the car okayed for towing???) so I had to pay a local garage to tow it to the dealer. If you smell gas, be aware, there might be a leak. My wife can not smell, so luckily I happened to take the car when this happened.

Wow, they should definitley cover all of those fees. They atleast should give you some sort of incentive to make up for such a dangerous defect. Fight it if they don't! Threaten to return the car if needed!

The car is a 2004 with about 50,000 miles on it, but I have the extended warranty. After having the car this long, I'm not sure that I could do much about it. It's not like its a new car. But it could have ended up very bad. My wife is also a smoker. Like I said, good thing I took the car instead of her. Thanks for your concerns.

Yes, very scary indeed. Good that you found it and were able to minimize any harm.
Unlike "Noisy Suspensions" or "Valve Train Clatter" this is the type of problem that could quickly trigger a safety recall. It would only take a fairly small number of instances to be a significant hazard. In all likelyhood, this is an isolated incedent, but you never know,
I'd suggest that you have a look at the NHTSA web site and seriously consider reporting the incident. It may be important for other TL owners.

I had this happen in my old accord, thing leaked like a bitch. I drove with it for probably 2 weeks cause I couldnt afford to get it fixed. After I noticed it I kept a fire extinguisher in the passenger seat but never had any issues. I managed to complain enough to get the dealer to cover the cost of fuel lines and I covered the labour, at the time the car had about 300,000KM so there was definitely no warranty.

Do you have any enemies, or a jealous neighbor? Seems odd that the fuel line would just split like that. I would personally like to see the old fuel line, maybe they can give you the old one. I'm sure everyone on here would be interested to see how this looks and wondering it it was actually a defect or worse case scenario - sabatoge. Glad you came out of the incident ok though, that's always the most important thing.

Good idea, but the gas stations don't sell it near me.

Seriously, I hope this is a one time problem that doesn't happen again to anyone. I just wanted to make others aware of it, so if it does happen to someone they may possibly remember hearing about this and avoid the worst.
