Selling my '07 Acura TL Type S

Hey Guys;

I've been a proud 2007 Acura TL Type S owner for almost 6 years. The car has run flawlessly and is definitely the best car I've owned to date.

I'm strongly looking at 3 possible leases once I sell my car:
  • 2014 BMW M235i
  • 2014 Porsche Cayman S
  • 2015 Acura TLX
Totally different cars, I know. I really want a Porsche but damn it's expensive and it lacks a back seat for my kids so it would be a totally selfish buy on my part

I'd really love to stay in the Acura family but I fear the brand hasn't placed enough emphasis on performance since the 3G Type S and their cars just keep getting BIGGER. Still I reserve judgement until I test drive a new TLX.

Anyways here is my listing for everyone to see:

Wow, that list is unusually different cars. Nice job holding out hope for the TLX, I feel the same way. Fingers crossed that it's solid.

KJ no doubt.

I am torn between going all out for a performance roadster or getting another sporty sedan. If I get the roadster, I will be driving my wife's 2012 Honda Odyssey a lot more than I am now but what fun I will have when driving myself in the Porsche.

I really like the BMW 235i but my wife hates BMW's. She can't stand the bland interior and everyone tells her how unreliable they are.

She gave me 2 options at this point:
2015 Acura TLX
Porsche Cayman

I really wanted a real wheel drive 300+ HP car this time around but Acura isn't really delivering that

Infiniti cars have gotten ugly IMO and forget about that new Lexus grille that has ruined ALL of their cars of late. Yuck!

Decisions Decisions

Well if you want to continue your proudness for another 5+ years, get the TLX for sure, think of the reliability & resale value of an Acura

The Porsche Cayman, although a beast, think of maintenance and resale value in a 5+ years

I thought I was the only one.

If you got a decent budget, that IS-F is pretty sweet.

@Drei;

No doubt. It scares me to think of the cost of service on a Porsche. My Acura is so easy and cheap to maintain. There is an incredible Honda dealer close to me that not only has BETTER service than Acura but they are cheaper. I laugh everytime I bring my car in for a $25 oil change with synthetic blend. Try doing that with a BMW, Audi or Porsche.

Have you seen the ridiculous Grille that Lexus is using now? I can't stomach it!

It's not that bad =) If I was choosing a car now, I wouldn't strike Lexus off the list. Can't beat that Toyota reliability!

if the first grille was still available, I'd probably run down and get a IS 350F. I don't believe you can still get it like that though.

I started looking at the Cadillac ATS Sedan but not sure I can see myself driving a Caddy yet. I'm still relatively youngish at 40 years of age

Ahhh dang man it's too bad you hate that new grill. I LOVE the new GS350 F Sport and IS350 F Sport!!! I would buy either of those in a heartbeat.
I personally have never thought much about Porsches so can't comment much.
New TLX seems like it will be nice. So far interior looks great, exterior needs to be seen in person before I can comment on that. It looks decent, but not sure if it's just gonna be too "just another average sedan" kinda car.

Hey, this isn't the 80's or 90's ;-) The new caddy's aren't your grandpas land yacht anymore!! I hear nothing but great things about those new vehicles. ATS and CTS are sweet. Supposedly those will be available in V or V sport models soon.

You may be right, but it will take some time before they're "cool" (with the exception of the CTS-V).

Check out this funny video made by a Porsche owner.

Interesting Craigslist ad, how did you spend $500 on interior and license plate LEDs?

Nothing wrong with the Lexus grille. I hated the pictures of it but when you look at it in person it's not bad.

TLX isn't much of a game changer anyway, the only attraction for people to buy it is the 9 spd AT and the LED headlight.

I love my WDP Type S but if this was available when I was in the market for one last year (I live in Jax), I would have been all over it. Good luck with the sale!

The IS-F doesn't sport the newer style, "predator" grill. It's got the original front end that made it so damn sexy in the first place.

I usually recommend keeping what you have and avoiding car payments, so I'll recommend that here as well. You have a nice, reliable TL-S and have customized it to your liking, and it's reliable, so why sell it to get back in payments and possibly deal with a less reliable car? It's also a relatively rare color with 83K miles on it, so it's barely broken in.

Either that or someone's going to get a really nice TL-S for not too much $$$.
Just a thought.

My only gripe with Lexus is the lack of a man pedal.

Good luck OP.

That guy is awesome. I really feel for him. Only way if get a Porsche is to lease it but their leases are too spendy. Just a dream car of mine for now.

Your probably right my friend. This car can go another 83k miles easily. I just need to change the timing belt and get a tune up next year.

I may still keep it and hand it down toy eldest daughter in 4 years.

Then maybe I can lease my fun car

I may have overstated but the backup LED lights were pretty pricey from what I recall.

Hmm I may have to go see and test one in person.

I've been driving a 3G TL since 2004 when I leased an 05 so I was kinda wanting something different. But my TLS us in such good shape that it almost seems like a crime to sell it.

I used to get those too and I used them. But, they stopped mailing them out.

They also offered to change out my breaks and rotors for $140 if I bring the parts. That is something Acura never offered me. If I keep the car it's something I will likely do in 2 years along with a timing belt change and tune up which again Wesley Chapel Honda charges significantly less than Acura.

The interior used to look quite bland for bimmers but I think it's improved significantly. I know you're looking at the 235i, but when I saw the interior differences between the E90 M3 and the F80 M3, I thought the F80 M3 looked fantastic. And in terms of reliability, won't the BMW dealership cover any maintenance costs for 50k miles/5 years?

Great info! Wesley Chapel Honda is local to me as well! Any specific tech you ask for? We need to get Tampa Locals together, after Love Bug season!

Good Luck if you do end up selling! Clean ride!

I don't recall his name but they have an Acura certified mechanic that always works on my car. Until Ferman Acura, Honda doesn't forget to check and top off my fluids and they properly inflate my Michelin AS Sport Plus tires to 42lbs not 33 like Acura did if and when they actually checked it.

Yes but running a fulltime business here gives me limited time to deal with broken down cars. My Acura just keeps running flawlessly. Not sure how the latest BMWs are for reliability but I did hear they are getting better.

Yeah, I see nothing bland here (M235i):

I'd get the BMW. The wife will get over it.

OK guys, I'm nervous. I just got 3 good offers for my TLS.

If I sell by next week, I can probably wait a couple of months before buying a new car.

Here are my options:
Cadillac ATS - not sold on the styling
Lexus IS350F - nice but that damn grille is killing me
BMW M235i - I like, my wife doesn't, hard to get kids into a coupe
Mercedes C300 Sport - can I trust reliability?
Acura TLX - have to wait till August release
Porsche Boxster/Cayman - dream car but had to include it

Any experience with these cars?

It sounds like you're really not sold on anything available. Not to repeat myself, but why get back in payments when you already have what you want??

I think your right man. After looking at the market I'm having a hard time justifying just that. Not such a bad place to be in especially knowing I'm in a very reliable car. Thx.
