Sell/keep TL?

I've been going back and forth about what to do with my 07 5AT (CGP, 115k mi) - sell/keep and mod. I got it about a year ago. I LOVE everything about this car except for 2 things: AT and FWD. I'd really like to get a MT + RWD car like a 04 M3/Boxster S. Something more fun to drive. Opinions would be highly appreciated!

Dat, you're 19-I can understand why you want a manual transmission. And you don't need front wheel drive, living in Jacksonville.

If you can afford a Boxster, more power to ya'!

Be thankful of what you got.

Keep the TL. RWD blows.

Keep the TL. I've thought about selling mine and getting a S2000 but I can't justify losing my back seat AND all of the money I've already put into this car.

I understand where you're coming from but you're already fortunate enough to have a TL at your age. Enjoy it and get your monies worth.

Damn you have 115k miles LOL? I only have 26k. Don't get a boxster. No one respects a boxster. Get a RWD E90 335i.

But in all honesty keep it man. I really did not like my TL at first. After doing a few simple mods I am really enjoying it and plan to keep it for many years to come.

Thank you all for your opinions! I think I'm keeping my baby. It looks too sexy for me to let it go and plan to do a few simple mods as well

M3..if you get a boxster, youll end up wanting a 911. If you get an M3, youll still have a backseat, 6spd or SMG depending on what you decide (hint: go for 6spd) and youll have your RWD!

I have a Boxster S and the TL and must tell you that many times I feel disappointed driving the TL because of the automatic transmission and most importantly the front wheel drive. I have also been thinking about selling it and buying an ISf because of extreme disgust for the front wheel drive platform.

I got the itch recently myself, so I picked up a miata and a turbocharger. Time for fun this spring.

Kept the TL of course, it's too sexy of a car to sell.

Lastly, I have never once been snubbed by anyone driving a 911 in the Porsche club because I drive a Boxster S.

I've been itching about getting into an e46 M3. I wish I would have just bought one before my Tl. I still love my car but the raw power of the m is something you can never get in our cars.

Like everyone else said, a couple mods you will love the car all over again, plus being 19 you have a nice car for a 19 year old.

In the same boat. Waiting for the right M3 to hit the market before I pull the trigger (missed out a pristine LSB E46 model a few months back).

Also considering hoping into a 'Vette or '09+ G37S.

Don't buy a Bimmer if you're young unless you want to be paying high premiums and a cop-magnet.

I was kidding about the RWD btw.

I would love to have an M3, but how often would I take advantage of the performance advantages of it? Almost never. Thus, I keep the TL, because it is the perfect combination of luxury, reliability and performance. It does none of those things great, but it does all of them well. Which is, well...good enough for me.

Well said. Keep enjoying your TL and if you really want some fun with it, next spring take it to your local car club's autocross events and you will learn all of the neuonces with a front wheel drive car. I take the Porsche autocrossing and it is amazing, and made me a much better driver.

Do you owe anything on it? If you do then I would hold on to it. You're not going to get a lot on a trade in.

If you own the car outright then it's a toss up. Since you only had it a year and you really want a manual RWD car, then I would trade it in. You're not going to just wake up tomorrow and feel differently.

You're 19, be impulsive.

I owe 2-3k on it. If I do sell it, I would sell it privately.

Can't really help you much. I am in the same boat. I've had my 07 Type-S for just over 2 years and yearn for something a little more sporty. I have added rv-6 precat deletes, v2 jpipe and removed the mid muffler. I also had a cai on for a while but got sick of the sucking noise. I've gotten used to the power so I am bored. Plus my GF has an 2011 Hyundai Gen Coupe Turbo. That thing is fun to drive. Lighter and quicker. My TL is paid for and in great shape. Plus I don't want a car payment right now. Freaken insurance is enough.

I was fortunate enough to have played the stock market with my dad with my allowance as a kid. He worked for GE Medical Systems so of course I put all of it it GE stock every week. Well while i was in college in Daytona Beach, GE stock hit a 60.00/share I had by this time over 1400 shares at 19yo so do the math . I had a 98 Prelude SH at the time which I kept but bought a 2000 S2k Silverstone Metallic with Red leather seats just as the car came out in Dec. 1999. I enjoyed the car but i still enjoyed the Prelude as well but sometimes MORE. Why you may ask? Well the H22a4 in the SH had gobs of lowend compared to the s2k. Yes it was awesome to be 19 in a car most were dreamind of having as the 1st Fast & Furious had just been released a month or two after i purchased it. What was fun about the s2k? It take the car to the drag strip to see what i could do (13.9 @ 98mph) but that wasnt the fun stuff. On weekends we'd go out to Lockheed/Martin parking lot in Orlando where I lived while in college and scca would do auto-x's. Its what the car was made to to... MR2's, miatas, vettes, and other cars would be there having a ball for oh about a haalf a day. The awful thing though were road trips back and forth to my home town in NC. I'm 6'1 165 at the time and there was barely enough legroom. It's a great car but notice most people that have commented on having a porsche or s2k etc had a second car for daily driving. I kept my prelude for my 30mi commute to daytona and s2k for weekends going auto-x'g and driving at Sebring . Oh you maybe asking why i got rid of it. When i was done with college i was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes so i moved back to wilmington, nc and what happens, we have an ice storm. We rarely get ice/snow in Wilmington but it showed my why rwd can potentially pose a problem. A week after that storm i traded in that car for an 03 CL-S6. The kid that bought it at honda was 17 in highschool. He totalled it in the rain . My s2k was beautiful. Think it through bro. If you can afford it and it works for you with daily commutes and the like, great. Good luck.

AZiners, what would you guys do if you found a 09 370Z for 23k?

370: ~$300 payments for the next 3 years (that's if i can sell my TL for maybe 14k) and higher insurance (esp my age)

keep TL: no payments nor higher insurance, current needed services are 105k service & a bad axle (~$800), mods (~2k), and keep it for another 2-3 years

it's all a matter of "do i want to make car payments for the next 3 years?"

or

do i want to have a paid off car and mod it for the next year or 2?

the 370 would be nice, because RWD/faster/low mileage/a 370Z lol

please help me make the right decision, i have been itching very badly

If you can sell the TL go with the 370z they are sick. But it also depends on your intentions if you want to be able to drive other people keep the TL as you can fit 4 people in it easily and comfortably.

to me 04 M3 interior is booooring (but it is indeed an awesome car, and Boxster (rear engine RWD)...i dunno...i had a MR2 and it's no fun driving in the rain, i believe Boxster is even more dangerous (never driven a porsche before so i dont really know) and plus u r 19.... .....i remember when i was 19........... (coughing coughing)

obviously the insurance and maintenance will be more expensive than ur TL.....my cousin paid $100 every time he change oil in his 05 M3 cuz it eats "special oil" ...

since u r only 19 and already thinking about getting a Bimmer/Porsche, that makes me wonder r u a super genius who makes crap load of money or have a rich parent? it's even rare to see a 19 yr old with TL in my area....

I can't wait until I get rid of my TL for the 335i. But in the time being the TL can keep me happy.

I had a choice between a 335i coupe and a TL-S. I ended up choosing the TL-S because I figured that it'd be more practical in the long run.

Stop thinking about getting another car. Be happy of what you got. Be thankful you have what you have. I was in your same boat before always wanting a new M3 or 911 etc. Yes I could afford it but should I sacrafice my financial stability for it? Nope. Once you finish school, start your career, and make some dough you can buy any car you like. $300 plus insurance is a lot to put in for someone your age (unless your rich). I told myself I'm at least getting a GT2 RS once I start working at a hospital in about 6 years.
