Scratched TL

Okay I know how iffy our paint is but today I accidently rubbed (literally I brushed against my trunk) a Starbucks napkin (free starbucks today ) against the trunk and boom! there was a scratch or what looks like to be a scratch. I couldnt get it off by rubbing or using a wet Cannon towel. I was wondering if any body has had this problem and how they got the scratch off. Would the claybar from zaino or any zaino product take it off? I dont think its embedded, it was a light scratch and im :'( now

That's some potent napkin you have. Anyway, try some rubbing compound to try to fix the scratch if it is one. I use Meguiar's Scratch X. It's very mild for fine scratches. Then try to glaze it or polish it out further. If you've succeeded in taking out the scratch, finish it off with some wax to protect it.

Good luck.

thank you. i used Z5 from Zaino and it worked pretty well. I dont see anything anymore. I will however buy a bottle of Scratch X and try it out if I get more scratches.

Word to the Wise: Do not use recycled paper napkins on your Acura paint finish. It seems that the fibers are harder than other napkins and thats what caused the scratch on my car.

This is the absolute truth. I ususally carry several pieces of Bounty paper towels folded up under my center console and some water in the car. It's needed to clean the occasional fresh bird bomb. I drench the mess with water and let it soak for a minute and repeat. I then wet a Bounty towel and lightly brush at the droppings lightly to see if it will come off with ease. If not, I wait till I get home to hose it off. I only use the cheap free napkins on the dash and glass. It's like sandpaper on the clearcoat.

For any special spot cleaning, try some Meguiar Quick Detail Spray. It's good for the in between car wash times and the possible bird droppings, dirt from the road, etc. The spray protects the wax and paint by lifting and lubing the surface so you don't make any scratches from wiping off the contaminants. I use it every so often on my wife's car and it works very well. That's why people that use a clay bar also need the lube so the contaminants picked up by the bar doesn't scratch the paint surface.

What he said....

I agree. Meguires Scratch X is very gentle and effective. (Hmm.. sounds like a :shit: laxative commercial.)

Also, Meguires #83 Cleaner and Polish works wonders. It is a professional item, though, that isn't sold in retail stores. You need to go to a detailer's supply house or mail order.

Zaino Z5 will fill in light scratches but they're still there. You just can't see them. It has no "polish" action (abrasive).

How about bumpers?

At the ripe old mileage of 1,600 my Antrhacite 6MT got hit from behind whilst sitting at a stop light. The alleged perp was doing no more than 5 mph and the damage is hard to see (I think the color helps), but there is a gouge in the bumper plastic. Does anyone have a way to detail that?

i dont think there is any quick way to fix a gouge. you should check it out with a dealer/mechanic to make sure there are no internal damages.
