Is the sales man trying to pull a fast one on me?

So I've been in contact with a salesman about an '06 6sp w/Nav. He has an Anthracite w/Parchment(what I'm looking for) and gives me a quote. I ask about mileage and he tells the car has the door protection package and he can sell it to me for $195.

I ask him if it can be removed if I don't want it, he says no. Now is the door protection package just the door trim that goes along the doors? I would think a dealer installed accessory would be able to be removed, unless I'm mistaken about what the door protection package is. Can someone enlighten me?

I think it is the strip along the side that protects your door from dings, I would tell him you don't want it and to remove the charge, or find you one without it.

I agree, Take it off or I take the quote to another dealer. And if they take it off make sure there's no damage.

When I bought my '03 Atlima, I just flat out told them I wasn't paying for it. They left it on anyway.

the salesman is not going to loose a 30k+ deal for $195 unless (S)he are crazy, work the price out of the drive out, they have plenty of wiggle room!

Tell them you will give them $5 for it. My neighbor bought a TL and it had a dealer installed lip spoiler. They wanted to charge him $450 for it and he told them either take it off or he would be willing to give them $5 for it. They left it on and charged him the $5 he offered.

If it is the moldings, they are put on with double sided sticky tape, and it is very easy to remove them. If you don't want them, tell them to take it off and also take the amount off of what they are charging you.

That's a big rip off anyway because the moldings probably cost them around $60, and it takes 15 minutes to put them on.

Find out exactly what it looks like. If you think it's fugly then make 'em find you that car you WANT but if you can live with it and the deal is good hold tough on not paying for an option you don't want. They'll try the old "split it with you" deal which means while they won't make any money on the option theywon't lose any either. No sales manager will let you walk for a $195 option that probably cost them about $75 out of their pocket. Best of luck and enjoy the new TL when ya land the deal .

ok, so I went to see what the door protection is and it's a strip of metal that goes along the door edge(vertically). Basically so you don't chip your car door if you ding it against something. I guess I can see why it can't be removed, it may take some of the paint with it because it was a real tight fit. I think I can live with it as long as I'm not charged a ridiculous amount.

Yeah, it something that cost the dealer less than $60, plus labor:

Agreed. Get the ebony interior. Once you've had black, you'll never go back!

I would not say that; when this 22 y/o was shopping for his TL, he specifically wanted a parchment interior. Don't know why though, but I just really like the way the lighter leather interacts with the wood (plood?) trim more so than the other colors interact with the Carbon Fiber trim.

I think the bigger question is, Why when you asked him about milage, he told you about the door protection. Why didn't he answer your question instead of changing the subject?

Did you go look at the door protectors? The ones they put on mine are clear and kind of go on like window tint. They are not noticable at all unless you look closely. They also put a perfectly cut piece by the door handles so a ring won't scratch the door. It may be overpriced, but it is well worth it to me. And I'll bet if it's the same thing as mine, you could peel it off with a heat gun no problem.

You guys are so weird about car colors. NO color is "old" or "young". For some reason, it's fashionable right now to have dark gloomy colors for car interiors. I guess it goes along with the goth look. But it doesn't make sense, since it's hot in the summer, and it shows every little crumb of anything that falls on it.

I agree with the OP that anthracite/parchment is a cool combo. You don't see it everyday, and it's light and bright inside. Not so good if you're trying to do a doob in there and want to lay low, I guess, but otherwise better than driving in a dark cave.

But that's just MY opnion.

I just don't like a black interior. The door protection is the color of the car and sticks out a teeny bit from the door, really only noticable if you are close to the door.

Oh he did answer about the mileage, but he kinda threw the thing about door protection in. I woulda thought he would mention that when I first asked about that particular car(it was the only 6sp w/nav in that color combo)

As another take on this... Blue looks nice with parch interior... That's the combo I got, and I think it is the hottest combo out there... Not that I'd turn down Anth.Ebony or even slate (or whatever the gray color is)... On that note, I'm still loving the way the parch opens up the interior vs. the black on black, but then again that is all I had in the past was a dark interior. Each has pros and cons, and if someone likes the combo, why dump on their prefs? What fun would it be if everyone got the same shiat anyhow? Imagine a car show or a get together... One lineup and just one color combo... Boring.

I can't believe $195.00 is an issue, I hope you've dropped him a few ground off the asking starting price.

I would talk them down to the price you want and tell them you have money in hand and if you dont get it for the price you want (with or with out those door things) you'll take your business else where.

Easy as pie.

First of all why if you asked him about MILEAGE did he respond to you about door protection? ahh never mind, didnt finish reading the post since this got my attention, but i see you have already answered this.

Just curious.

But yes, these things CAN be removed. And if you dont want them they can take them off. Or just not charge you for them if they think its going to be more of hassle to take them off, clean your car, than to just give it for free.
