Sad day for my TL :(

Due to insurance and registration issues , I can't drive my TL until May 2010 My registration has been suspended until that date (I made a few mistakes which caused this) I've tried many different options and ideas but in the end I have to park the TL in my driveway until that date. I'm not selling it either, I love this car too much!

Here is my question, now that it's going to sit for 8 months, how should I prep it? Should I change the oil, get it waxed, cover the wheels/car and put it up on some jack stands? I'll start it every once in a while just to get the engine running but that's about it. Also, (stupid question) should I leave it in gear (6MT) or neutral and just put the E-brake on? What else can you guys think of?

I really appreciate all the help, this forum is full of awesome people with tons of knowledge and help! I'm not leaving here but just won't be doing any mods and stuff like that.

In the meantime, I bought a 1997 Saab 9000 turbo 5MT to drive around no it's not the Aero (I wish)

^ Yea I'm kinda curious about this. How did your reg get suspended??

I have never heard of this...They will let you drive another car but not the TL?

Doesn't make sense.

Basically I drove the car without insurance for almost 250 days. I was dropped from the insurance company and I never got the letters because they sent it to my parents address in NY. It's a very complicated and twisted story. I had to go to NY for a week to figure all this crap out. It in the end, I buy another car through my parents and keep the TL sitting till May.

Driving without insurance automatically suspends the registration for as many days as you drove without it. (You can pay $8 fine per day up to 90 days but I was way over that limit) The car had NY tags and registration and NY is so fricken strict with their laws!!

damn that sucks man but I would part it out and sell it. THis way the car is just losing it's value sitting there and you don't get to enjoy it at all. Put the money in the bank and next year buy a type-s if you love the TL that much. But it's you life and it seems to be sucking right now haha good luck

No need to let it sit there. I just drive it down the block once every couple of days.

Definitely do not put the ebrake on for extended periods of time. The spring will become stretched and not work as good after and the pads will stick to the rotors. I don't even use the parking brake when I will be parked for more than 1 day.

Why would you need the ebrake if you're raising the car anyways?

Also you want to plug the engine openings (intake and exhaust) with a rag.

he doesn't have that many aftermarket parts on his car ( I am saying this based on his signature), so why let the car sit there. Take the parts off sell the car and then after you save up some more money get a type s and put those parts on that car.

and I think that 8 months would be a fucking torture to stare at the car and not be able to drive it.

I'm still thinking about either keeping it or selling it. If I sell it then I'm buying a condo (hopefully) I'm still in the process of picking up the Saab so I haven't really sat down and figured out a price to ask on the TL if I decide to do that.

If I keep it then that sounds reasonable. Better then having it sit on jack stands begging to be driven lol

Don't be a pussy.. drive the TL.. you drove it without insurance for 250 days.. what's another 250 without reg & insurance..

btw.. if you're really going to let it sit.. keep it covered. Unplug the neg battery cable. Crank the engine for a few minutes every couple of weeks, wipe down the interior with leather conditioner and cleaner every month or so and close your A/C vents. Make sure spot rust doesn't form on the rotors, if it does.. drive it a little to use the pads to knock if down or medium sand paper.. easier if you just drive it a little. Make sure rats / rodents & bugs don't make the TL a home. I've had wasps clog up my fuel filter in my RX and rats chew up most of my wire harnesses in my Accord while sitting for extended periods..

Dang that sucks, I wouldn't even want to imagine having my car sit for 8 months.

Wash, claybar, wax the exterior, wipe the interior down with leather condition and cover the car. After the months, you're cars battery will probably be dead so recharge it up. Then I would recommend probably seafoam and changing the oil/spark plugs.

I like the Saab. I think if I needed another car and didn't have a lot of money a late 90s 9-3 Turbo 5 speed would be a good choice.

fill the gas tank too. if its filled with gas, there is less of a chance of condensation buildup.

Those damn critters lol I've heard so many horror stories about rats and bugs invading cars! I don't want that happening to me.

Don't let him get pulled over. He'll be paying thousands of dollars to clear his record.

Nobody! Seriously, I can't see myself doing that. My friends would definitely mess something up and most of my relatives are all younger kids.

I can't even think about looking at the car everyday and not being able to run it through the gears Sux!

I had a 1991 Saab 9000 before and that was an awesome car! I like Saab's, especially the older models. Much more reliable and very fun to drive

Ok, this is going to sound crazy. The DMV didn't let me do that they said family members can't register the car The people at the DMV piss me off so bad!! Most of them don't have a clue wtf they are talking about.

I'd say put some seafoam and fuel stabilizer in the tank, fill it up about 1/2 way. Put the car on jackstands (just enough so the tires are lightly touching the ground (incase a stand slips) and lower it down every 2 weeks for about a day so the suspension will be loaded and recompress (otherwise in 8 months it'll look like a 4x4 for a while.

If you have a drive-way about 2 car-lengths long, I'd suggest turning it on when you lower it and driving it back and forth a few times in the drive-way so you can get all the fluids moving and what-not. Make sure to get it up to operating temp!

Also put some refigerator packs of baking soda in the foot-wells so incase there is any smell or dampness the packs will absorb it.

Remember to condition the leather and do normal maintainance. Also I'd suggest changing the oil in the car at around the 6 month mark because the oil has probably been sitting in the car for around 2 months (est) and it turn acidic in a year....

well the dmv doesn't really know who your parents really are. So you should be able to re-register it on their name.

you could register it to a trusted friend (although you trust no one, haha i know what you mean) have them register it to your parents, then get on and STAY on the insurance, problem solved.
