S2000 Vs 6mt Tl
S2000 Vs 6mt Tl
Ran against my friends S2000 couple days ago and it didn't turn out the way I liked. Both cars bone stock off the line he jumped on me by 1car with a great launch while I got a decent launch by end of 2nd he had a 2car lead by end of 3rd he was up by 2 1/2 to 3cars damm those things are freaking fast. We ran a couple of times even from a roll I still could not really hang with him. So we switched cars eventhough I have not driven the s2000 before I rev the car and got a great launch and easily beat my tl by 2cars to 90mph. When that car hits vtec it feels so much faster than my tl. But of course the s2000 doesn't have the interior like ours though

The S2000 (until 2004) had a 2.0L inline 4 cylinder making 240 hp. In 2004, Honda increased the displacement to 2.2L, but making the same horses. Redline was also reduced, but the torque has increased. The official statement for doing so is because the power is now more useable, at a lower range (since the S2000 is not known for its stump-pulling torque anyway).
I would consider the S2000 engine one of the most technically advanced in the world. In its initial form it was making over 120 hp per liter! Disadvantage is that it is a high-strung engine, and you have to drive it like you hate it to get the best times.
To the original poster, there are other threads discussing the S2000 vs. TL if you are interested. I will try and find them for you if I can.

Isn't our TL engines very different from the Accord V6? The Accord uses a 3.0L V6 , we've got a 3.2L V6. If anything, I'd think we've got a de-tuned version of the NSX's 3.2L
Anyone got the engine codes for the Accord 3.0L V6, TL 3.2L V6 and NSX 3.2L V6 ? Be interesting to see which engine block the TL's is based on.
Edit: Did a bit of research on the engines
NSX = C32A
Accord V6 = J30A1
Acura TL/CL = J32A2
So our TL engines more closely ressemble the Accord's than the NSX's. Even though the displacement of the TL and the NSX are alike, it looks like it's a completly different engine in overall design.

The TL and Accord have SOHC engines and the NSX is DOHC. The TL engine is a larger displacement engine based off of the Accord. I remember reading on TOV that they were very impressed with the J32 in comparison to the NSX engine. The TL was making more torque and only about 20 horses less.
Hope this helps. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

I apologize. I didn't catch your edit.

Hats off to you for spending an afternoon enjoying both cars so enthusiatically!

DOHC just allows more flexibility my playing around with valve opening duration and lift. And in Normally aspirated engines this is usually the trick for unleashing more HP without having to change pistons, cranks and connecting rods.
Yes I know we can get more HP with free flowing intakes and exhausts but I personally want to stay away from that. I like my luxury cars quiet and my sports cars loud.
If Honda can make 2.2L engine that is basically as powerful as ours, why don't we get more goodies for our engine? Even though the S2000 is a sport car and ours is luxury sport, what happened? Why doesn't Honda maximize performance on all their cars (to a certain extent) like BMW does? 270HP is great for a 3.2L engine, but if Honda can do more, they certainly should!
