S2000 oil filter in 3G TL?
I recently traded my s2000 in for a 05 TL and thought I heard talk of people using the PCX filter in their TL's. I hope this is possible because I have a couple left over and it would be nice to use these in the TL.

The dealer told me that filter was okay to use, but Road Rage expressed some reservations about it. I haven't used it yet. It will fit all right, but the flow characteristics may not be correct.

Unless it is the identical PN as the one used in the TL I would not bother. You are saving what like 14 bucks... sell them on evbay for 7 bucks and get the filter meant for the car...

The post about RR having reservations using the PCX filter on the TL is dated 1-19-05. The post saying he uses the filter is from last week. It's not that I'm trying to save a couple dollars w/ some filters I have laying around...I thought the PCX was a better (made in japan) filter.

Yep, I agree with you. It's just that we seem to be getting mixed messages. If RR has changed his recommendation (or redefined it) I am fine with that. I, too, have a couple of the PCX filters kicking around, and they do seem better made than either the Filtech or Fram.

S 2000 OEM Filter =Mobil 1 M1-104 Synthetic Media Filter
I am placing my commercial 6-pk order for filters (M1-104)and I recommend using the best filter money will buy. Whether using synthetic oil or petroleum base, I recommend the S-2000 size filter and further recommend the Mobil 1 (Champion Corp) filter as the best, as it and the Purolator One, use a semi-synthetic media filter material (versus cellulous-cardboard material), which will give you improved and longer lasting filtration which corolates with those who use synthetic oils. If you want the standard, OEM size, use M1-110.
The above filter can be used on your late model Accords, Civics, TL's, RL's,NSX's and S-2000's. As Honda says: "Let's keep It Simple". And as Mr. Neiman Marcus has said in his book and philosophy in life, "Quest For The Best". As a car nut, I consider the TL to within that catagory.
One can purchase through Service Chamop, Chalfont, PA (800) 221-0216, Ext. 1721, Scott Gustie or one of the others, M-Friday's only, and if you ask them, they can waive the shipping charges. The Mobil 1's come in a six pack, which is not a problem. If you set up a commercial account, ie, name of your favorite city or pet, ie Palm Springs Auto Parts, etc. and give them your credit card, you will be able to buy these filters for under $6/each. My last order was a while back and it was $4.99 (no shipping). No, I am not receiving any compensation. I simply love cars.
Hope that helps some of our members.

Really funny how the TL filter is so small. About the same as my 2 Integras use.
Anyway, I used to use AM filters on my cars and then began hearing horror stories about them failing on different vehicles so I stick with OEM now. I know I can't go wrong in that respect.
One thing for sure, the NSX guys swear you must use the OEM one. It is so much bigger than the TL one too. Yet in my car it is a smaller engine(3.0L).

The design of the OEM S2000 PCX filter requires a torque procedure that can't be done by hand. Unless you train an actual gorilla to do it. I kept trying. Turns out they're disobedient asf. I find the torque wrench easier.
It doesn't necessarily apply to any aftermarket filter you use on a S2000. The factory filter does not have a traditional gasket.
Lots of S2000 engine fires and blown motors are caused by under-tightened filters.
The instructions are printed on the PCX filter housings.

^You need an oil filter adapter to do the above
There are some aftermarket options, but they didn't really work for me. I have the factory Honda adapter.
Not sure this is worth the squeeze since the TL can easily use a normal filter. Just use a nice filter meant for the TL. The PCX filter is like $15-25. for that, you can buy a few "premium" filters for the TL.
The S2000 and NSX spec the PCX filters because of their spin-off protection requirement (which only works if they're torqued). And because of the MASSIVE oil pumps the C3x and F2x engines have

been using s2000 filter (15400-pcx-004) on the tl for years with no issue. Wasn't aware of the torque requirement, but have never had an issue tightening them by hand. Fyi they have phased out the original and replaced with new (15400-pcx-006). Plenty of genuine Honda dealers offer them for $10-$13

I found their listing as the 1st search on google. Thought it was nice of them to offer it at that price and also list the part number as a service.
But yes, its a dealership-available part

If you ever see an S2000 with an engine fire, ask the owner if they've heard of 07AAA-PAAA100
Insensitive? MASSIVELY
Relevant? yes.
Way too many people in the S2000 community (including mf's that change oil at Honda) claim "by hand is fine".
