RV6 HFPC failure

I haven’t even had my RV6 HFPC for a year and both banks have failed. Completely shocked because my oem cats lasted so long. Anyone else have this issue?

This is quite a common failure with the RV6 HFPC's; every year I see a couple posts like this.

Why is it shocking? They're aftermarket cats and they cost a fraction of the price....

The aftermarket construction is circularly wrapped vs. a solid honey comb that sits in in the cat. Pipe.

overtime, the gas pressure pushes the wrapped material out which loosens the grip on the pipe walls. Ending in failure.

The cat. material is also soft and made if non-precious metals.

Exactly. Acura's parts cost more because they are objectively better. #capitalism

while I didn’t expect the same quality as oem, I at least expected them to last a few years. It’s been about 9 months.

unfortunate, i've never heard about rv6 hfpc failure. besides pro-cats are there any other options (other than oem)? was thinking about starting 'performance' mods with hfpcs but if this is the case then i might just go straight for the jpipe

if you’re looking for some extra power, the type s does have different cats than the base. Base cats are 900 cell, type s cats are 600 cell, hfpc are 300 cell. I don’t know how much more power the type s cats give you. It’s probably not worth it. I would go catless if it wasn’t for the rasp.

yeah, good call. i would ideally like to free up as much power as possible but ~$1k+ could be better used somewhere else for my current situation. the drone/rasp/environmental concerns are my qualms about catless.

that money could definitely be better used elsewhere. I am very picky about drone and rasp too. The HFPCs didn’t add any drone besides some slight vibration in 5th gear around 45-50 mph. Barely noticeable though. It has some rasp but mostly from the flex pipes on the j pipe. Another option is doing PCDs but leaving the 3rd cat in.

what is you exhaust set up? You can always throw the 3rd cat back in there if you don’t have the rv6 j pipe. The third cat gets less hot and will last way longer while deleting the rasp.
