"Running on Empty"
"Running on Empty"
For those of you who remember him, no -- this is not a reference to the Jackson Browne song from several years ago. Thought I'd share that when your fuel gauge is on Empty, you have about 3 gallons left. This has happened to me twice in the last month (not by design, just by neglect that I haven't filled up before the light goes on and the needle is directly on E) and I've topped off the tank at about $.03 per squeeze of the pump.
I'm getting around 28 mpg overall these days, in all kinds of driving (except fast with a lead foot). Have about 2,200 miles on the car (kinda babied it the 1st 700 miles) and don't make those jackrabbit starts to show off my 270 hp engine -- although it's amazing how many kids in other vehicles tend to take off as fast as they can when they are next to me at a stop light. Probably wishing I'd floor it and race them to their next speeding ticket. Using 92 or 93 octane (can't find 91 octane anywhere locally).
What's there not to like about this car? Awesome interior design and toys -- it makes everyone drool with envy when they see the list of goodies on the inside.
Last time I listened to regular radio was just before the 1st time I tried XM (just extended for 12 months @ $5 per month when my free 3-month subscription expires in December).
Have also bought a few DVD Audio's and they are great -- I think you really notice the sound when there is a lot of instrumental in the music.
Starting to use the voice recognition Navi a little (need to go on a trip somewhere that I've never been).
As for those rattles I hear about all the time here -- I may have 1 or 2 minor squeaks, but they seem to work themselves out once the car warms up. Winter may be a different story when the car stays cold more often.
Bluetooth -- Christmas is less than 2 months away. It will be on my list (along with some DVD Audio's).
Exterior -- people seem to look a lot as I go by, so it must be an eye-catcher. I haven't seen any cooler lights on another car yet (except maybe the 05 RL).

All I have to say was that was a very nice review of our car. Thanks for that.
But I do have to say that it's time you start really trying out your car! This car really has two personalities. If you drive it calmly and tamely, it acts like a very refined, very quiet, very comfortable family sedan. But when you push it, the beast comes out!
Enjoy, and congratulations on your purchase.

RAWR!!!
Just to clarify, you have 3 gallons left when the fuel light goes on
OR
3 gallons left when the market indicates "empty"
OR
3 gallons left when the display shows that you can travel "0" more miles?
WHich one is right?

This info is excerpted from a very long thread I started about fuel tank capacities, etc. and is based on actual and precise testing
a. When the low fuel warning light comes on, if you are getting 25 mpg you can go 94 miles, but if you are only getting 20 mpg, you can only go 74 miles. Of course, other miles per gallon figures will result in different results. This means you have approximately 3.7 gallons remaining.
b. When miles to empty reads zero, that is time to fill up, but you can still go 57 miles at 25mpg, but only 45 miles at 20mpg. This means you have approximately 2.3 gallons remaining.
c. When filling the tank, if you stop at the first shutoff, you will have about 17 gallons in the tank.
d. The tank will actually hold about 19 gallons, but it is not recommended to fill the tank to capacity, so stop at the first shutoff.
