It looks like Acura's maintenance doesnt require a filter change every time, but rather every other oil change.

I change the filter and oil together every time regardless.

IMHO, if you're spending the cash for the good stuff, don't cheap out on one or the other. Spring for the RP oil AND filter.

My personal preference when switching motor oil is to drain all of the oil, change the filter, then run the car for ~100 miles then change both the oil and filter again.

What a waste, there is absolutely no reason do this and waste perfectly good oil.

Drain and fill, change the oil filter.

OP how long has the filter been on for mileage wise?

*shrug* That's why I said it was my preference. What's the point in changing oil if you don't flush the old stuff out? Let's say that I picked up generic oil at Walmart and wanted to switch to the good stuff... if there was a reason to switch, then there's a reason that I want the old garbage out of the motor.

one oil change interval isn't going to do anything at all. It's not going to wear any more or less if you don't flush it out. Almost all oils synthetic or regular can be switched back and forth with no ill effects.

This flushing business is absolutely pointless.

And that's your opinion, you're entitled to it. As am I with my own.

Royal Purple is a waste of money anyways.

Mobil 1 EP is better and at a fraction of the cost.

You bought an nice expensive car don't be a cheap skate on the maintenance of this car! ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAY if you change the oil change the filter!

I remember seeing someone on here who bought a car didn't change the filter from the previous owner and then developed a leak in the filter because it rusted out. Why risk your engine. Plus think of it this way, filters get clogged the longer they get used.

On my 4Runner site t4r.org a guy was doing the "AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters" it's an extended drain filter, meaning like 15K, and at about 9K he blew the motor because of a clogged filter. Would hate to make that mistake!

I think what RP says is to change the filter at the normal interval and then to go with an extended drain on their oil. The smartest thing to do is if you decide to do that, get the oil analyzed to find out it's max life in your car, then just change the filter at the half way point.

Blackstone Laboratories is one I have heard of online.

i always change filter and oil at same time you wil never HURT anything by changing out something sooner than needed

might cost you a little more but if you ask me i would rather pay higher upkeep cose then REPAIR costs i cant afford

How did come to a conclusion that it was the filter that caused the problem?

So you run it for 100 miles without oil in it? :gheylaugh:

Thats the reason why Amsoil doesn't recommend their EA line of oil filters beyond manufacture interval for the Toyota's. It's an issue with the design of the Toyota motor(s) not the filter.

Not an issue with Honda motors, if you are using a high quality filter such as RP, Mobil 1, Bosch Distance Plus I'd safely go twice the oil change interval with no issue. If you are not using a high quality filter then replace the oil filter with every oil change.

Instead of splurging the big bucks for RP filters I'd just grab a Purolater PureOne or Wix (or any of the rebadges of P1 or Wix such as Bosch Premium or Napa Gold) and just replace them at every oil change.

Yup the rusted / leaking filter was my thread. Since I change my oil every 3000K with conventional, i used to skip the filter every other change.......NEVER again after leaking oil like WHOA about 4000 miles after I purchased my 06 AM TL AT5 with 63 k miles. After i aqcuired the car i did change the oil right away but not the filter....lazy me i guess i didnt realize how easy the oil filter is to remove upon purchasing researching the car. As for Royal Purple ......NO thanks. theres tons of oil out there and I am a believer that OIL is OIL....just keep it fresh and your good to go.
