I've been running royal purple for the past 2 oil changes and I love it. I went with a heavier weight (5w30) and still picked up fuel economy. I am pretty confident this is the best oil money can buy.

Auto Parts stores for sure. I don't recall if they had it at Wal-Mart or not; I think they did.

Runs ~$7.50 a quart and I haven't seen any 5 qt ontainers.

Not too long ago, someone posted an article out of Europe on many different oils test on that machine. Pretty good reference, even though not all the products are available here.

Has anyone else had any experience using this? I figure it can't hurt to try it on the next oil change but I'm interested to know if anyone else has any experience using this and how much of an in improvement in Fuel economy did you see?

Yep, I posted up that article but I'm too lazy to go searching for it. RP is awesome stuff, but take note: BE AWARE THAT IT IS NOT NECESSARILY GOOD FOR YOUR CAR TO USE THEIR TRANNY FLUID IN AN AUTOMATIC. RP is very slippery stuff and some auto cars simply DO NOT like RP transmission fluid. Like I'm talking it leads to full tranny rebuilds. It supposedly causes the power bands to slip within the tranny. Consult whatever resources you have to figure out if it's fine. RP's diff oil and engine oil are fine though, I had fantastic results running them in my IS300. I picked up 3-4mpg instantly by swapping to RP fluids and the car felt much smoother. Yes, legitimately 3-4mpg.

The only oil I feel is better is AMSOIL... I actually just became an AMSOIL dealer so I could get cheaper prices on their oil and supply it to my friends. Let me know if any of you all want any AMSOIL / Mothers products!

I run Royal Purple in my truck. I like the 10k miles between change (filter change at 5k). Good stuff! I get lifetime free oil changes for my from the dealer. I will ask if they can do RP for whatever extra they charge.

Erick3,

You can get RP at Joe's (Alderwood). I've been using it in my past few oil changes. It runs about $6 or $7 a quart, so not the most economical option.

And if you watch the Horsepower TV episode with the LS1 Camaro where they swapped out all of the fluids to RP they picked up like 9 or 10whp over generic synthetic. You have to take hp comparisons like that with a grain of salt because you don't know the kind of funding / cash flow that goes in and out of those publications. Import Tuner could be getting kickbacks to badmouth certain products, or vice versa... you never know.

Joe's (formerly GI Joes). That's where I get my Amsoil but I always see Royal Purple there as well.

I love that place. One of the few stores in the NW that offer military discount as well.

I've seen this test in person...At one of our SRT4 meets (when I had a SRT4), the owner of Leading Edge Lubricants came out and did this demonstation....He used all the oils and did this test....the only difference from the video posted above was he kept stacking the weights until the cyclinder stopped...

Royal Purple did better then all the other oils, castrol, pens.....Ok so then he tested out the Amsoil stuff you add to your oil...It did actually yield more protection and it took on more load then just the oil itself, so it helped out all the brands...Then he tested his own product called Oil Booster.....he placed all the weights he had and it kept running, he even removed the bottom oil tray and it still didnt stop...I was sold....Ever since then, I have place this stuff in my oil every 15k....

I personally use RP and also every 15k I put in a oil booster....All my cars have ran smoothly...just my

Nice video, but there is something odd about the temperatures shown.
The first run with the other brand only shows a temp. of 95 deg, but the purple showed 114 deg.
I would expect the temp. to be less with the better oil

Wow! Marketing at it's best (or worst depending on how you look at it).

I love the part that it can "undo" some of the wear by previous oils. So this magical oil can put metal back where it came from....

The wear scar test doesn't mean much in the real world in an internal combustion engine. I believe this was originally a test made for grease.

Just take a look at the UOAs of RP and see for yourselves that it's a crap oil.

It can make a little more hp because it shears so easily but I'm not ready to trade 2hp for more engine wear. RP turns in some worse wear numbers than cheap dino oil but it's still a favorite with the import communitiy. Go figure.

Yep. I remember about 2 years ago on this site that RP was not very highly rated. Royal Purple is really good at marketing.
If you think about it you can make about any product look good if you design the test to make it look good.

Amsoil in the TL. Cheap Superflow dino in the GN but I may try either Redline or Amsoil's new racing line.

You can only find AMSOIL at parts stores or dealers who have become licensed AMSOIL dealers. Send me a PM if you're interested and I can look up some pricing for you when I get home tonight.

Go to walmart and get a $19.00 Pennzoil Platium jug. I currently use Amsoil and dont plan to run it for the 35k they say. And dont plan to buy anymore.

Mobil1
Pennzoil Plat
Valvoline Synpower will all be great for the TL.

To be honest, I'm comfortable using any good synthetic oil because I put the Oil Booster in...so I know that Im running good stuff....

As for the vid, Ya I noticed the temp thing which was wierd....When I witess the test I didnt see the temp cuz I dont think it had one...Think he was more demonstating how the oil did with more load, he place load until it stopped...and he tested the most popular brand and yes, RP did better than the rest...He tested the Amsoil stuff and it did improve all the oils so thats good stuff...then he did his Own product which did awesome....Its not every day you can meet the owner of the Lubricant company and him do a test personally....That was cool....

Is this the stuff you're talking about Blatallic??
http://www.px3lubricants.com/DynoTests/
Horsepower TV tested this stuff on the dyno with a hemi Charger and gained 9 HP and 14 lb/ft of TQ Video included
