Rookie right here..

I have an 04 base Deep Green Pearl AMT TL with 80k miles. I love the TL to death, but the 4th generation is ugly. 3rd generation looks much better in my opinion. I would love a Type-S with fewer miles so I can have the car for a longer time considering I am a college student. Should I sell my TL and grab a Type-S with fewer miles or keep my base TL and modify it as much as I can to where it would look like a Type-S (fogs, navi, etc.)?

80k miles is really low for an 04. Whats the rush to get a car with less miles?

it will cost you more, but if that isnt an issue then it would be a good jump.

at this point in time, I dont think there are any type-s' with lower miles than you!
unless you find A GEM, and it would be expensive.

My 07 type-s has 64k on the ticker . They're out there, but like justnspace said they're also expensive. If money isn't an issue do whichever makes you happy.

It's up to you. Do whatever makes you happy. Nothing wrong with a base TL.

I handle two jobs and still have my 3.25 GPA for my first semester. I'm sure I can get at least 11k for my TL, so I would really only spend about 10-13k. I have been working my buns off earning money and spending on as little as I can. Slowly climbing in the $$$.

Me too, the 2012 has a smaller beak, at least I think it does...I have also seen some aftermarket grills with the beak 86'd.

I would hang on to the 04, IMO 80k miles isn't much to write home about. As long as you take care of it, it will last you a good long time. As others said, if you want a low mileage TL-S it wont come cheap. I would do some mods, custom headlights, Type-S tails, wheels etc, and deff the A-Spec kit if you haven't already done so.

Thanks for the welcome. I honestly do not like the Deep Green Pearl so the color is another reason why I just want a fresh start with a newer car. And where do you get custom headlights? Still new to this website. I have a ton of learning to do!

-Look through this thread for some great custom headlight examples. That is one of JNC's threads. ACKTL05 also does custom headlight and tail work. You can mod them yourself to if your good with that type of stuff. There is a few DIY's from members here that have also done some cool things with their lights.

just me but i wouldnt necessarily want to work my ass of to buy something that only depreciates in value like a car. You're losing about $1k a year in depreciation alone, especially for a TL-S that hasnt leveled out yet. Your current TL is actually saving you money. play around with this calculator: http://www.money-zine.com/Calculator...on-Calculator/

Well living in South Texas limits my options on how far to go to get a car. Wouldn't modding my TL into a Type-S look alike cost a fortune..? And thanks everyone!

^did you not know about the type-s when you purchased your 04? or was it not released yet?

sounds like you're real unhappy with the decision you made, which i don't understand why, because you bought the car.

my suggestion, keep your current TL, get it paid off and be debt free.

I had a similar dilemma. Base, or dish out for the Type S.
I ended up buying a Type S, as I like the little details that it carries over the base.
I'm also not much into visually modifying my car, thus a "made to look like" Type S will never be a Type S, the extra 0.3L does make a difference, TS has superior breaking performance, and those rims!!!
Those were the deal makers for me.

I'll sell you my 6MT CBP TL-S with 55k on the odo. for $22.5k flat. Mint, clean, no problems ever in the history of the car. Let me know if you're interested.

How is this a weird thread?
I just want a Type-S with low miles and in excellent condition so I can call it my own and keep it for a good, long time
