Cool Roof racks

I have a 07 TL type S. I just bought a Bones trunk mount and will be returning today. Problem is the bike sways too much and butts up to rear of the car. I have read online that the foot pads will scratch the bumper and trunk also. I called the local U-Haul store to consider the price of a type 1 trailor hitch, not made for TL's. So,only option to minimize damage and be able to carry my bike and expand to other options is the roof mount. Suggestions would be welcome, experiences, etc. Yakima(usa made) vs Thule (swedishmade). What would Tiger Woods do? Ok, ok, he married a Swedish cutie. Thanks, R

There are class 1 trailer hitches for 04-08 TL's!! Here is a link for one on ebay. Probably be a LOT less ugly than a roof rack IMO http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Trail...spagenameZWD1V
Hope this helps...

I bought the yakima kit for my TL as I do alot of surfing and snowboarding. The cross bars end up being 24 inches apart and I haven't had any issues with it at all. There are no scratches from where the pedestals rest and I'd definitely recommend the yakima opposed to thule because the cross bars are way further apart allowing better load distribution and stability.

I had an 01 tl with a roof rack. It looked bad and hurt my fuel mileage. I bought an 04 and installed a class 1 hitch from hitchit.com. I use a Hollywood 2 bike fork mount rack. It is easy to take on and off, and I still get the same mileage with bikes on the back of my car. I have had the hitch on my car for three years and it is used once or twice a week, year round. The hitch was @ 90 bucks, and the rack was @ 180 bucks. A roof rack from Thule or Yakima with 2 trays, locks, and fairing (a must with a roof rack) will be @ 500 bucks. I will never put a roof rack on any car I own from now on after having a hitch rack.

Thanks for the information and for reposting, incorrect placement. I went with the Thule roof rack and Rocky Mounts tray, everything locks. They cut the cross bars off, gives a more custom look, less crappy. Paid less then $400. Ate dinner at micro-brew in Boulder after savings, ahhh good beer!
