Roof Rack?

I need a roof rack for my 07 TL-S but the only place I've been able to find vehicle specific ones are from carID, and they only have 4 options: sportrack (cheapo thule brand from what I've heard) rhino-rack, thule and yakima. Does anyone know if I can get a medium or high quality roof rack? I'm mostly concerned about the feet as I really dont want to scratch my car, and I can get a normal bar for cheap. Anyone have any insight into this issue?

I went through this same issue a couple years ago. I was able to piece together a rack from some Thule feet and a generic bar (square bars are same width) that was the right length to get across my roof. It took me about a month on craigslist, etc. to find the necessary parts. To be honest there is no ‘cheap’ or inexpensive way to do this other than parting it like I did. I got lucky since I wasn’t in a hurry. Otherwise you’re going to drop $300-$500 depending on the brand.

Just keep checking local Craigslist for someone getting rid of theirs. I sold mine to a kid with a two door accord sport and it worked like a charm the feet are easy to modify on the older setups to fit diff roof lines (just bent them carefully).

Out of curiosity what are you putting on the roof rack?

Yakima Rack fits great! As mentioned above, the racks aren't super cheap unless you get lucky and piece one together thru craigslist.

4 - Q-Tower Mounts w/ Rubber Landing Pads
2 - Q-116 Clips (Front)
2 - Q-112 Clips (Rear)
2 - 48" Round bars

Thanks for the info on craigslist, I'm putting a snowboard carrier and/or a thule on my TL. I'm concerned more about the feet than anything else. Is there a way to figure out if a certain set of feet wuold fit or are they all universal as long as they mount between the door and the roof?

I am not too familiar with Thule racks, but I can't imagine the concept is not much different than Yakima. As for the Yakima rack, the mounts/landing pads are universal and the clips are made specifically for your car (112 & 116 for the TL).

Exactly, it’s the same for the Thule.

Dave, what length bars/size carrier do you have there? Pretty much exactly what i am going for.

Do you put painters tape or any barrier between the clamps and your roof? Just nervous about f*cking up the paint, first ski season with the TLS

I meant an actual thule cargo box. I actually just saw a guy in my town with the same car and a roof rack, but it definitely wasn't a thule or yakima rack. It had a couple silver crossbars, I wonder if he bit the bullet and got a $50 ebay rack xD

Thule and Yakima are pretty much the best on the market. Look at all the racks on top of cars in your mountains' parking lot and 99% of them will be one of those 2.

Here's everything you need (sans the box) that even came of a 3G. He says no shipping, but I can't imagine it being more than $50 to ship across the US.

Having pieced together my own Yakima kit via Craigslist I can tell you; $450 shipped isn't a bad price at all, especially since it has the fairing too.

I got a 2 bow down kayak racks, 2-58" bars, 4 q-towers, 4 q99 clips for $100. If you search constantly, you will find stellar deals. They are hard to come by though. I feel I got super lucky on that find.

I’m not 100%, it’s been a while but I think they’re 48”. Can check any kit online and see how long the included bars are.

No need for anything between the clamps/feet and the roof. The design of them is that you can install the rack with no modification or damage to the car when done right. That being said I do lay a big blanket (keep a wool army blanket in the trunk) across the roof when I’m putting them on so I don’t rest anything on the paint until they’re installed. Little tricky with on person but it can be done.

48" bars fit the TL roof perfectly with a 44" fairing. There should be some "black electrical tape" on the clips so it is not metal on metal. As mentioned if it is installed correctly there shouldn't be any issues of damage.

This the new JetStream bars (50") with FatCat6 snowboard mount with a 46" fairing. All in all, ~$700 for the setup.

Those mounts wont fit your roof. You need the Q-Tower mounts. That is for a roof with rails already(suv).

Sorry man, maybe can talk him into shipping if you’re serious about it? Didn’t see that part of the thread.
