Rock chip on the windshield

I'm so pissed today, I was going 75 mph and was behind the oddysey and suddenly I heard bang...next thing I know my windshield got a big rock chip on the passenger side.
I asked dealer how much to replace it and they said about $483,00 my question can I claim my insurance to replace it I have full coverage insurance and I believe my deductible is $ 100,00 for comprehensive.
Thanks guys any input will be appreciate it.

Well, I guess you wont find your answer until you call your insurance company. Im sure they will cover it.

If your chip has not turned into a crack ,it can be repaired. Most of the time they can be fix to the point where you won't be able to see it, unless you look very close.

Yeah and the insurance company most likely will cover it for free and send an agency like Safelite out to your job or house. Better move quick though, chips become cracks very quickly...

Auto glass shops can reliably fix most chips and small cracks for a fraction of the quoted insurance deductible.

I had a rock chip on my windshield about a year ago and safelite fixed it and my insurance picked up the tab... I cannot even see the fix now... As long as the chip is not in your line of site and less than the size of a dime, it can be fixed.

I would have an auto glass shop take a look at it first before replacing the entire windshield. Just call your local Acura dealer and ask any service rep. to give you the name and number of the auto glass shop they use and refer their customers to. If the chip is un-repairable your insurance company will cover it but I would NOT go to my insurance company for a $500.00 windshield because once they give you a claim # the next time your insurance is up for renewal your premium will go up so essentially in the long run that windshield will cost you alot more than the $100.00 deductable you paid.

$483?? I was quoted $605 most recently, $875 a few months ago. My insurance would fix a chip if not in line of sight (mine is). Replacement windshield only covered after my $500.00 deductible.

The Safelite rep said the prices come down a lot as the car supply on the street increases.

repairing the chip should always be the first option

the rubber seal fitting on the replacement windshield will never be as good as the original

Thanks guys, but that chip is a big chip bigger than quarters coin and spread like spider's web.
Do you think it's repairable?
Is it true that my premium will go up?
Last time I got rear ended hit and run cost the insurance company almost $ 6500,00 and my premium never go up.

I got a small chip/crack fixed by safelight for $60.00 a while ago.
Next time I get a hit, I will replace the windshield with an aftermarket one, the honda glass is real soft/thin and gets scratched and chipped real easy, and people here report the safelight glass has the sound laminate in it, and is much harder then the OEM glass.

If it's larger than a quarter plus spreads, I doubt that it can be repaired but it's best to show it to the glass professionals.

As far as your premiums going up, this is a crap shoot.

I know that around my area, we have a "No Fault" insurance system which means that we can't sue the other party insurance company but at the same time, anything claimed goes on your record with insurance company usually offering options to not tally the first claim but the second one will cost you.

Personally, I pay for my own glass repairs and don't even bother advising the insurance company as too many claims and you eventually pay it in premium increases.

Best regards from Montreal, Canada
