I guess I'm a little confused. The way I hear the "ricer" phrase being tossed around, it seems like it refers to testosterone-induced teenager flashiness.

I don't see how this would relate to the Japanese influence, or even how rice comes into play. The only way that I can make a remote connection is with motorcycle crotch-rockets, otherwise know as "rice-burners". However, there isn't much visual extravagance involved in this motorcycle crowd (not a lot of neon pipes, spinners, music-driven lights, etc).

I'm just curious ...

OK, I think I'm keeping the blue, for a while anyway. The wife actually thinks it's kinda cool and I sat the boy in his new cool-blue carseat and he was all smiles (although that could have been gas too...)

I do like the super white look as well. superbrightleds is going to make a mint off of this board ;)

Also for those that want to research the origins of the term 'rice' here's a couple good places to start :D

Colored lights are cool until you have to read maps and the like under them.

Jessedog,

Are the white LEDs as bright as the factory bulbs? They look really nice! I think white light is nice but they, the bulbs, always seem a bit dimmer and causes dark shadows to form. I won't get my TL until mid May and am debating about getting LEDS for all the interior courtesy and dome lights.

i believe the term ricer comes from "rice-rocket" ... which by definiton is an import with many mods (be they beneficial to performance or not). the term is used loosely for cars modded without class/purpose, but now.who knows.

so a "ricer" is one who drives a ricerocket.

or so i thnk.

The white LED's are not as bright as the factory bulbs which are more yellow in color. They are bright enough to read from and I think they look much nicer than the stock bulbs. Make sure to get at least the 6 LED bulbs, I would think the 4's would be too dark.

I am sure the baby in the car seat will appreciate the rice-blue lights...lol.

cM3go 03-26-2004 09:51 AM

what are the bulb sizes for the vanity mirror lights

Aspector Gadget 03-26-2004 10:00 AM

I prefer Jessedog's light setup. The blue in the back for passengers. I assume that it would be easier for the driver to use the rearview with the blue. And then the whites up front, the whites seem a lot more functional in the front seat than blue lights do.

For the doors, I think blue is good. But I'd like to see someone with red, red as a "safety feature" if you pull over and need to get out of the car.

vtechbrain 03-26-2004 10:16 AM

RICE, RICE, RICE.

So, red for the doors, white for the fronts, blue for the rear..... Sounds like an all-american, 4th of July parade car to me! :D

Seriously though, I don't know about the mix&match color look. I think it looks better all one color. Either all blue or all white (or all red if that's your taste ;))

Also, I am now convinced that until I get a wing and some MOMO or NOS stickers, it's NOT rice.

Hey, all its nice to have fun deciding on colors of bulbs , it's the cheapest mod you can do to change the look of the car. Whatever color you decide just think, for less than a oil change you can change the look with a differnt color bulb. "It all good "
and thats what makes owning such a fine car even more fun !

mamorgan1 03-26-2004 10:32 AM

I just ordered the bulbs, I figure for $20 buck I may as well check it out...this is a mod I wanted to do to my Jetta but never got around to it.

cM3go 03-26-2004 11:02 AM

hmmm... blue or red... hmm... there's a lot of blue in the car already... and the needles are blue... red would be nice offset... hmmm... decisions decisions..

Lastdra900n 03-26-2004 11:18 AM

well... im 17 so my obvious answer is KEEP IT!!!

mobilezen 03-26-2004 01:12 PM

Looks good. I would go for a different route with all the lights though...just different colors. :)

boringegg 03-26-2004 01:13 PM

just a smal question...
since it's LED now...does it still fade in and fade out when it on/off?? is it just instant on/off now?

Michaelvg1 03-26-2004 01:44 PM

Like the door lights, but not the domes...
Putting mine in this weekend.
Silver with Ebony.

Yes it fades. Seems quicker but definitely fades.

jessedog i just sent you a pm. just asking how hard the install was and how much did you spend and where did you get them? :D

markiemark 03-26-2004 04:14 PM

I did the superwhites in the front and rear domes and the blues in the doors. looks really good except a little darker. I get compliments on them so they're staying. Oh BTW I have camel interior and the lights take away some of the orange glow from that the lights give off.

Did the super whites give a xenon type look on the inside. I just ordered the blues for the doors and now I wish I had gotten more since the shipping was as much as the blue's and its a flat rate.

UW RL 03-26-2004 11:58 PM

would the LED bulbs fit on my 2000 TL? Thanks.
