Reverse/ back up lights hid kit help

I bought a h1 hid kit i got the bulbs into the housing and then when i wired everything up only one side turns on, remember this is for the reverse, have any of you done this before and if so how did you do it, the ballast and bulbs are good, i am thinking there is not enough voltage for the reverse and i might need to wire them straight from the battery, any input would be appreciated. Thank you

Maybe this is off topic, but putting some leds in woulda been much easier...

hopefully someone can resolve your issue though!

there is not enough current going to it. i say if u want to run a relay and just tap the reverse sourse power as a signal.

btw this isnt really a good idea as the hid kit will be turned on and off constently.

Yes... You need to Run a power wire of at least 10 awg from the battery to the trunk area... Then usE a relay for activation like the previous poster said... I did this mod about a year and a half ago and they are still going strong.... But I also installed a delay on the reverse light activation of 2 seconds... This way the HIDs wouldn't try to activate everytime I went through the gears, since I have an automatic.

I used a H3 bulb HID kit because it's the smallest bulb they make to reduce the risk of burning the reverse light housing...

Mod ON!!!

No doubt José.... You know I got you kid

Alex is right... If you have an Amp in the trunk... You can use the power wire for the Amp too...

Ok i understand, but if i connect the power straight to the hid wouldn't that mean the hid is constantly on? How do you get it to only turn on when you put the car in reverse? Thank you

You need to run the constant power to a relay activated by the reverse light wire.

Rodney is the man.. I hounded him when i did my project .. LOL. I ran into problems because of the stupid DEI 528T relay I decided to use which was defective. Anyways you should buy the timer delay relay to make ur life easier and just wire it in that way.

I also like RODNEY wired it up to the cup holder for a tailgater switch. RODNEY really deserves credit for this mod.

And those of you who dont get the power of HID.. watch:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qvjx4dxfOzU

And this is a video of ABP04TL hitting the tailgater switch.. BACK OFF!!

And before anyone asks, the stupid flickering is just a result of a bad ground that I need to fix. And props goes to Trew for the shooting my video.

With HID kits now costing as much as LED's .. I mean I figured why not.

Holy F! raj. 5:55AM. you really dont ever sleep.

but hes right the price for hids and leds are real close and you definitely can't compare the two on output. alittle more work for the hids but a million times better than leds.

I actually found a thread on TSV about the reverse HIDs... I did this mod in December 2007... That's when I started getting crazy with the MODS... and it has gotten progressively crazier...

I'd like some kick ass tailgater lights! Also how big are the H3 bulbs? Would they fit in an opening for a 921 bulb?

they are slightly bigger than the 921 (license plate) bulbs for the bulb tip, then the metal base is about maybe 1/2 to 1". so technically, the hole for the reverse lights should accept it.

H3 works no problem. Use a dab of JB weld and stick it in. Its not permenent because its just a dab of JB Weld and so it dries brittle so you can pul it out. I already tried.

Do not use Hot glue, I tried that too, but the heat from the HID melts the glue and starts letting loose.

i looked it up and here are the approximate measurements:

height of a 921 bulb - approx 1.18 inches / 29.972 mm
height of an H3 bulb - approx 1.25 inches / 31.75 mm

width of a 921 bulb - approx 11.11 mm
width of an H3 bulb - approx 12.5 mm

What would be better is to turn them on say your on the highway and some idiot decides to tailgate you. Then I can see how these are worth it.
Looks nice

Did you not see the 2nd video? This is exactly how we all have it wired up, with a momentary switch right by the cupholder for "instant on" while we are driving forward so that it turns on to get the tailgater to back the "F" off.

I also have it hooked up so not only does the HID lights come on, but so does my rear view camera at the same time .. to catch all the BACK THE F OFF action.

Evan post the pics that you have of your momentary switch.. I know you did b4 in another thread.. I never took pics of mine.

WOW! This cures my biggest complaint about my reverse LEDs---I can't see anything behind me. The backup cam helps a lot, but I really love this option.

Please, more info on the delay relay (part #, where to buy?) and especially the tailgater switch with backup cam wiring. I have the NavTool unit, fyi.

WIRED IT UP USING THIS RELAY KIT FROM EBAY Item number: 320395282848 IT WAS EASY AND IT DOES NOT FLICKER, AS SOON AS CAR GOES IN REVERSE MY HID KIT TURNS ON BOTH BULBS WORK AND IT IS BRIGHT, I LOVE IT. I DO NOT SEE THE NEED FOR A DELAY IN IT BUT THAT IS JUST MY PREFERENCE. I ALSO HAVE A SWITCH MOUNTED IN THE CUP HOLDER TO BE ABLE TO TURN THEM ON WHILE THE CAR IS ROLLING TO BLIND THE COPS WHEN THEY TRY TO CATCH ME....HEHEHE I DON'T DRIVE SLOW SO I NEVER WORRY ABOUT TAILGATERS...
