Resale Value due to Redesign in 2 years

How do you guys feel about buying a 2006 TL knowing that the TL will be redesigned in about 2 years. I for one hope that the new redesign will not make the current generation of TL's look outdated to the point where it becomes ugly to look at. I hope that the resale value of the TL will continue to be solid even with the new redesign that is coming up soon. Any thoughts?

Eventhough I think one would be able to get a fairly good price for their 3rd Gen TL on a private sale, when the new body style comes out, the resale value will still be adversly affected. That is always the case; and dealers will lowball you on it for sure.

Well one can look at history and see the 2nd Gens were hurt badly by the 3rd gen release. However if a person was to always live in fear of this there would never be a good time to buy. I would say if you like it buy it and enjoy it.

2nd gens were screwed way before there was a new model (i.e. tranny faliures). Sure the 3rd gen hurt a little in the resale department, but no more than any other car.

The car is only have way through it's life cycle. I'd be far more worried about the 2007 facelift in terms of resale value. I guess we've got 4-5 months before it's here.

I agree with the tranny failure issues, but the 3rd gen is all together a much better package. The 2nd gen interior was out dated, Technology was weak, and the handling was nothing like the 3rd gen. Overall the 3rd gen is a huge improvement.

With that being said, let's assume the 4th gen Tl may be more like the RL. An all wheel drive TL or possibly a Hybrid that is faster in the 1/4 than ours would be an issue. One doesn't have to look far to see every new gen with Honda is a worthwhile release. They never re-release the same old crap.

I would also bet money on the new TL have the Satelite based traffic alerts (like the RL and the new RDX will have)

I am sorry, I should point out that my wife has an 03 Type S. I am reminded of the difference every time I drive her car and then get into mine.

The tranny issues really aren't as well known as you would think. Only people that are web savvy or hang out on forums know about it. Besides Honda is standing behind their cars repairing them no questions asked. My wife's TL isn't covered by the vin range and was not a total failure. It was very randomly acting up. We had it fixed without any issues and after 50K miles.

the 3gl was such a radical redesign over the 2gl that it doesnt compare. It went from a family sedan to a sports car. the next generation will possibly look better, but in terms of styling, I dont think the current generation could ever look bad...maybe just not as cool looking as a newer model...

Acura thinks the price will hold

I just leased a 2006 TL last Wednesday from Acura on a 3-year lease with 15K miles per year. The residual on the vehicle was 56%; that indicates that Acura thinks the value will hold up quite well through the introduction of the next generation of models. FYI, the residual on a 12K/year lease was 58%. These residuals are among the highest in the industry right now.

I agree 100%... the 3g will always look sharp to me. This may be my first car that I keep for more than 3 years!!! But AWD and a few more ponies sure would be nice...

I have a source that says that the facelift will be something that we are to be jealous of. subtle, but still keeps us in the envy department

Worry about the things that you can control only! If you must always have the newest, fastest and best looking you will probably always be BROKE. It's just (nice) transportation.

I think the 2nd Gen TL's look good enough for an older vehicle, which makes me think that "our" TL even thou different will remain a head turner...

I believe facelift will be

1. cleared tailght,
2. mirror turn signal

that's it

In terms of 4G, 2G vs 3G was a HUGE depature in design point of view. Look at other cars such as 3 series, they just changed a little from previous model. Suzuki Grand Vitra is another example of depature from previous design.

3G looks very futuristic, I would think 4G will have curves here and there from 3G.

Mid-cycle refresh has taillights similar to the original concept, a different grill, real-time traffic, and fogs added -- best guesses from wizzing around the net enough. We'll see soon enough.

DRL's, fogs on the bumper, next-gen navigation system (with NavTraffic ?), aux. audio jack, MP3/WMA compatible sound system. We'll find out in a few months.

Honda never does much for a refresh. I don't think they've ever done one that my wife would notice.

The current car looks so good that I'd say there's a good chance that the next one won't be as attractive. I also cannot think of another sedan that holds its value as well. Every time I look at the prices for used TLs I am shocked.

I will be in the market for '07 TL and I am not worried about the full redesign. There are only very few little annoyances with the current version, that are completely overshadowed by all goodies that the car have.
I am hoping to trade-in my ’06 Accord by the time the new one hits the showrooms. I know that I should perhaps wait for ’08 Accord, but knowing the history, I do not think that the 4-door Accord is ever going to be as sharp looking as the current TL, so I am not too much concerned, plus I do not think the new gen Accord will get much in terms of content compared to the current TL.
Once I get the TL, I will progressively make it more appealing to me by getting the body kit, summer rims, a-spec suspension etc that I know for the fact will not be bored too soon as I am looking to keep my next car for about 8 years or more. By then I guess I will be ready for get 5 TL

Well, just hope Acura doesn't do to the TL what Lexus did with the IS. In my opinion, the IS300 is an ugly car compared to the IS250/350. It's like night and day.

That is because IS300 was an ugly car from day one!

This makes no sense. Did you mean to say the new car is uglier than the old one?

The current TL will be a tough act to follow.

If Acura came out with a 300-310 hp (new SAE rating), SH-AWD (if they can keep the weight in check), 6MT TL Type S with an updated navi system, I just may have to pick up one of the first TL-S when they become available!
