Replacing my Daytime Running Lamp
Hi,
In Canada, we have a Daytime Runnin Lamp. I would like to replace it with a HID light or something to that effect. I've seen a couple of cars (Ferrari as an example) with a daytime running lamp that looks like an HID. With that said, is it possible to do this? If so, how and what type of light bulb I should be using?
Thanks...

i tried to do the same thing to my 03.. but unfortunately you wont be able to get to un HID;s as your drl's. the drl's do not use enough power to ignite the hid's so it wont work if you plan on getting a balast and bulbs.
if you are trying to get rid of the yellow bulbs you can get a set of those piaa super whites and that should give u somewhat of an HID look....
if you run your hid's all the time get ready to replace them in the near future.....

im not 100% certain of what kinda bulbs you would need for your car. I will look it up for the 03's and i imagine that they would be the same.. you should be lookin for about 55w bulbs and they should run you no more than $50cdn... and you can pick them up just about anywhere.....

You guys should think twice before replacing a super white bulb into the DRLs.
The DRL is running like 1/2 of the original voltage, so the light output does not look HID at all. Yes, the light does look more white/blue than the stock, but with it running at 1/2 voltage, I personally think the bulb looks a big ricey due to the reduced output.
And yes, I did put a MTEC Cosmos Blue 4750K bulb in my DRL, and I did not like the look due to the reduced voltage.

FYI...I replaced the DRL bulbs with PIAA Extreme Whites. Not good. Barely any diff from the stock bulbs. I'm thinking there's gotta be some white/blue bulbs out that'll work even with the low voltage?

Use PIAA 7500k or 8000k spark blue bulbs. I have the 7500k in my 07 Type-S and it get rip of the yellow look. It looks blue/white stright on, and puple/white, pure white at other angle because of the special gold/blue coating on top. You can get them from auto-proparts on ebay. Chepest place I have found and great customer service even though they are in Hong Kong. They immeditly sent out another pair of bulbs to me when I told them one of the bulbs that I got is defected.

I can only give you a description.
The light will certainly look more white/blue, but the light output is rather dim since it operates at a low voltage. From a distance, the light nowhere resembles a hid look. It just looks more white/blue than the stock DRL. That's it.

Found some pictures of a IS300 running PIAA 8000k spark blue blub as DRL bulb. PIAA 8000k and 7500k are pretty much the same, and they look pretty close to what mine looks like.
