Replacing key fob

Is there a difference between key 1 & 2? Test drove a 2007 Type-S 5AT today and the dealer (not a CPO) said they only had key 2. Did a search on the forum and there was a post that indicated that getting a new key 1 was expensive but no price was mentioned. I want to get an idea so that I can factor replacing that into the cost of my offer. The car has 54k miles, a few minor scratches on the exterior and all the wheels have a bit of curb rash. My friend told me that the wheels can be fixed for about $100/piece. Would anyone mind running a carfax on the car for me? If so, please shoot me a private message (TIA). They want 21k for it but I'm hoping they'll take high 19's.

Key 1 and 2 refers to the memory seating. I purchased my used TL with only #2 fob and bought the other fob on ebay for around $20-$30. Just follow the steps for resyncing the key fobs and make sure your new keyfob is linked as well (i don't have my keys with me at the moment, but it's something when you press two buttons on the remote - check the back of your current key fob).

The key is a "switchblade" one and is 50 dollars for the whole thing. Then it's probably going to be another 100 dollars or so to get it cut and programmed to the car. So I'd say 200 is what you should ask for them to knock off for the key because of the time your going to have to spend to get it. If you want to be sure of it, call up an acura dealer and ask for a quote on a replacement key for your 07TL-S and to email you a copy of the estimate.

Show it to the dealer your getting it from and tell em look, I have to get another key, knock this off the price.

I bought my TL used; it came with the #1 switchblade and the valet key. I bought a #2 switchblade on ebay for $22. I need to get it cut and programmed. I read in the owner's manual that I should have a serial number for the immobilizer chip but I cant find it. Does anybody have any suggestions?

this is sorta off subject but can you use the new style key fob for an 04 tl. I hate how outdated the old key fobs look.

I'm a bit confused. I've been seriously considering updating old KeyFob (from an 04 TL) to the Switchblade design sold by HeelToe.

I've seen his price which is quite steep just for the key itself ($119). I see some people mentioning above that it can be purchased on Ebay for $50-ish? I know most items on Ebay are not OEM and are aftermarket.

Does it really matter in this instance? Has anyone purchased a Switchblade from Ebay? Experiences?

Ebay dont sell oem ones for switchblade 04 tls. you need the oem 07-08 switchblade key milled to fit 04-06. they run $100+ after milling not cut yet. I say go with oem and buy from heeltoe.

the cheap ones i hear arent durable.

My car came only with Driver #2 key, went on ebay and bought Driver#1 fob for like $25, I have it synced and linked to the car easily, and also I paid 7 dollars for uncut V chip key, which I need to take to the Locksmith to have it cut and programmed for my car, I hope all goes well and will not cost me a fortune.

The key is 60ish (shipping, tax, etc) on ebay and then Mr. Heeltoe has to have them modified to fit into the 04-06 locks.

If you haven't bought the car yet, why don't you negotiate with them for the key 1 to be included.

Here's an update to my problem; maybe it can help you too. The dealer charged me $63 to replace the metal key unit in the $22 key fob that I ordered on eBay. They cut the key for free, then charged me $57 to program the immobilizer. So my total cost was $142, but the whole process took weeks because everything had to be ordered.

Ahh, I see. So basically even if I purchase the non-OEM key from Ebay...it cannot be used until it's modified to fit my locks?
