Replaced the stoptech rotors with stoptech rotors and rotora pads. Pictures!!
OK, I replaced the pads from the oem setup back at 60k (eight months ago) with Stoptech slotted/drilled rotors and Posi-Quiet ceramic pads.
I loved the setup and the look and the braking was strong, little dust, all was good. I had drivin the car for about 25k miles and I noticed a pulsation again when braking. I was told to re-bed the pads in again and try it. I did and it worked or so I thought. After about 2-3 weeks of driving I would have a pulsation again. Re-bed the pads and it was ok.....then it came back. After doing this every other week, I gave up and ordered a new setup.
I am not sure why this pulsation was coming on with so little use of the brakes. Notice my old pads. Plenty of meat on them compared with the new one. I heard if you over tighten the rims, this could have an effect. This is true, but when the car goes in for service, it's out of my hands on what torque they apply.
Thanks to Excelerate, he helped me out with another set of front rotors and Rotora ceramic pads. I am going out in a little while to bed them in on a little country road tonight.
I just figured I would post a few pictures up of the process.
With 45k miles on the pads, you can see how little I use my brakes. All highway!!!
Went to the dealer and picked up four new screws for the rotors.
Man the new TL is huge!!!!

The looks are the same as before so I am use to it. I just got back from breaking in the pads and rotors on the back country roads. 10 stops60-10 mph in a row and then hit the highway for 15 minutes and do it all over again is hard to do in city areas. It's nice to live in NC.
The brakes feel good and will feel a lot better with time. The main thing is the annoying pulsation in the pedal and steering wheel are long gone.
They really re nice for the money! Call up Excelerate and do it when it's time for new ones.
Thanks, it was a lot of work that paid off.
Nothing yet except they are as smooth as the day the car rolled off the assembly line!
Vinny, what is up brotha? Are you coming up this way for x-mas?

No worries Eric. I was in Charleston today but you know how I roll. Always on the run and never in one place to long.. I get in my TL and drive drive drive. The brakes on this car are cake to change. I did it under an hour. Instead to taking the Lexus to my parents house, I am rolling the family in style in the TL. The car is like brand new again between the new tires and brakes. I know Alex is happy about that.
I might see you on Route 40 tomorrow as I am rolling out. What time are you leaving?

I forget where you said your parents house is located. We'll be heading out in the morning sometime before 12. Maybe 10, maybe 11, not real sure. Whatever in the fuck I do, I want to make sure i dont sit in traffic on 85 due to 5 lanes merging into 2. It was a disaster the last two attempts going to Durham on 85 north, hopefully i'll be able to slide right out of mecklenburg county without any holdups.
When are you leaving?

Ok, I knew you were having problems with your brakes, but help me out here...
Old set up: Stoptech rotors, some random pads
New set up: Stoptech rotors, Rotora pads
And what were your reasons for getting either set up?
Have a safe trip and a good Thanksgiving!!

They were on the car when purchased.
Seach around for *many* DIY's on cleared/blacked headlight. Check the 3G Garage:

Also, member JnC is running a deal to do it for you. Look for a groupbuy thread in the main 3G forum.

It is great to have a smooth pedal again at highway speeds.
Thanks Josh, it's great working with a A-zine vendor.

True the ceramic pads are a lot harder than the oem ones but if that was the case, I would have heard more issues with them from the other people I talked with who have them. I think putting too much torque on the lug nuts might have an effect on it too. The pads just didn't have enough meat taken away for the pads to warp the rotors that fast.
Thanks

WRXTRANCEFORMED- thanks man and yeah the car is looking pretty good considering all the places she has been. We all need to do a meet soon and get Trevor involved. I know you guys are busy but someone has to start a meet sometime in the near future.
BIMMERMAN-Yes, these pads will work on any rotors oem or not.
