repairing scratches around ignition

hello everyone, im not sure if this was posted before, i tried to search, but i didnt find anything.
I was just wondering if any of you have scratches from your key around your ignition ... and if you do ... how would i go about fixing that??

my mom scratched the hell out of it the few days i lent it to her and since then it has been an eyesore to me. I talked to an acura dealer and my option would be to replace that black over on the column (didn't tell price) or just to use some heat and melt it back together to hide the scratches

yea its really pissing me off ... since a body shop did it ... they told me they will have to replace my entire ignition ... and i dont want them to screw something else over ... so thats y im askin if there is any other way to fix it besides replacing the whole thing ... or using heat

If the scratches are fairly light, PlastX from Meguiars might remove or lessen them.

isnt plastX for clear plastics ... its a very good suggestion though and i may try it ... but i thought the black part around where the key goes in is metal ... im not talkin about where it says I II III ... im not sure if its different in the type s the it is in the base ... but def ill take a look at this PlastX stuff ... thanx 260 hp for the suggestion

Damn, if you're talking about the round piece where the key hole is, I think it's steel. I don't think you can buff the scratches out easily if it's gouged.
