Removing the spoiler?

How hard is it to remove the rear spoiler. Looking at getting a used TL that has it and I really don't care for the big spoiler. Will it leave any marks after it's gone?

Thank you

Check and see if the spoiler is bolted thru the trunk lid. If it's a big one like you say it is, it's most likely bolted on. So if we remove it, there will be holes.

If it's the wing spoiler, there are probably holes drilled into the trunk lid. It may be easier to buy a used TL trunk lid rather than do body work to cover over the holes.

The lip spoiler has holes for bolts as well, but most people put it on using double-sided tape, which can be softened using a heat gun or hair dryer; IDK if the factory/dealers use the placement bolts as a general practice.

G/L.

the spoiler will have holes drilled into the trunk to secure it. My suggestion would be to find a member who wants it and then trade trunk lids if it bothers you that much.

Thanks for the info, so I'll have to get a new trunk probably. Another one I'm looking at has body side moldings which in my opinion kill the side profile. I take it those are held on by glue and leave some marks when you pull them off?

thanks

held on by some glue, the way to remove it is simple. Take hair drier and heat mouldings, then you can :

A. Pull on them
B. Take some floss and run it under the moulding to seperate the glue from body.

Then once the body mouldings are off, let the glue cool and then remove with some goo-gone.

...as everyone already mentioned, its probably got some bolts hooking it to the trunk - but an alternative - get the small lip spoiler and put it over the holes? assuming fitment works out, etc

...may not work though, now that i think about it doesn't hurt to try...

If it is the factory wing spoiler, they are bolted on. I have one and I like it. It's a $500 piece, so perhaps you can sell it on E-bay.

How much would a body shop charge for a removal?

removing factory spoiler

I just bought a 2005 TL and want to remove the factory wing spoiler. any suggestions? I like the look of the smaller lip, and does anyone know if the smaller lip would cover the holes from the factory wing? I would be willing to sell the part for a good price, I just want it off the car. The color is anthracite.

not sure if goo-gone is too healthy for the clear coat
