Recent passenger "clunking" sound fixed...

For the past few weeks I had noticed a clunking noise ( sounds like a bad shock ) coming from the passenger side of my car. So as usual I looked on the forums for any type of help ... Finally bit the bullet and went to a front end specialist (Atlas on Webster in the bx ) and after a 3 hr wait all they found that was bad was just the right side motor mount. So I changed it and what do you know ... The noise was gone... At first I was reading about bad tie rod ends and sway bar bushings and all that was wrong was just the mount. I don't harass my car at all ... Just thought it was a little weird that at only 42000 miles my motor mount went bad ?? Hmmm any one with simiar problems..?

Hummm VERY interesting. My 07 Type S seems to have something similar the only way I can explain it is that the front right suspension sounds sort of "loose" and "clunky" over bumps (its not bad but I notice it). I have inspected everything visually and obviously it looks perfect.
So what your saying is that a bad motor mount actually fixed what sounded and felt like a loose/bad suspension from the right front wheel area? I might have to look into this more. My car is under warranty but I have yet to take it in as it seems like its too minor for them to be able to find a problem.
Please let me know if my description above seems like what you were experiencing.

Thanks,
James

Yea it sounds like you might have the same problem..... B/c my car felt kinda loose while driving I guess that's how to explain it I dunno it wasn't noticble b4 and after a while it just seemed to get louder so I think u can self inspect the mount first b4 spending a arm and a leg at the dealer for them to tell u the ususal "" we can not reproduce the noise you claim"" b/c I know the TL and type s have a lot of torque that makes the engine/ tranny shift hard so it would be best to check the mount b/c I don't drive my car hard andy mount was the result

Cool im gonna head out to the garage and see if I can inspect the motor mounts however I have a feeling they will be hard to see and even if they are bad would be pretty much impossible to tell visually. We will see.

Yes, exact same problem with my son's '05 @ 62k miles. The 1st dealer (original selling dealer) looked at it, wasn't sure and suggested about $1300 worth of non-descript suspension work and no guarantee, but "we think this is it". Not caring for the shotgun approach, we ended up taking it to another Acura dealer in town for a 2nd opinion. The tech took the car out for a test drive, then 5 minutes on the rack to confirm a broken pass. side motor mount. $220 total with an oil change and it's fixed. Even OOW they put him in a new ('09) TL loaner.

The first dealer is preferred as they are much closer to us, better part of town, newer/nicer shop etc., and has a better overall BBB rating, but has a reputation for embellishing their shop receivables on out-of-warranty (OOW) work. Based on my son's experience this week we may end up taking our '08 to the other guy too once we're OOW. That's a shame as I really like the people at the selling dealership. This may be a good opportunity to go in and have a talk with them.
