Rear window in the rain

Does anyone else notice that you can't see anything through the rear window when it's wet? Would Rain-X or something similar take care of it?

I agree. When the car has been sitting in the rain but it has stopped raining all the drops on the glass make it difficult to see through. I haven't notice but they should start running off when hitting the brakes in reverse. Rain-X should help but I haven't tried it yet.

Rain-X will work. I've driven without having to use the windshield wipers on freeways. It's pretty cool, but I think it reacts with and damages the wiper blades after time. I had to replace my wiper blades more often when in use with Rain-X. Can anyone confirm? Should be fine on all other windows.

Count me in with you. I also agree that Rain-X damages the wiper blades. I never thought about it until reading your post. Wow? About the original message, yes use Rain-X in your rear and side windows (front window at your own risk).

i disagree. 'been using it for almost 20+ yrs now, ever since someone brought it to the racetrack for a motorcycle race in the rain. i think never cleaning youir wiper blades makes them deteriorate faster.

regardless. i'll replace my blades twice as often if that's what it takes to have a rain-x'd windshield.

Just wax the rear and side windows if you want the rain to sheet and they will look good too. Rain-X makes a windshield wash solution (available at Walmert and others) that works excellent and treats the windows to Rain-X everytime you use it. I have used Rain-X for about 20 years (most of those years in FL) and have zero regrets. It is much safer in the rain to see where you are going. I think it extends the life of the wipers, since they act close to new even though they would have lost the edge on untreated glass.

Yeh RainX will do it. If applied right, buy the time you get to 30- 40 mph, you shouldn't need your wipers one.

Is it okay to use Rain-X with PIAA Silicone wiper blades?

You can get the same effect as Rain-X by having your windows extreemly clean .. Not by using window cleaners but a dedicated Waffle Weave M/F towel .

I seldom have to use my wipers in normal rain at above 40 MPH and I have nothing on the glass.

Use Rain-X, you'll see difference.

When I did use Rain-X on my 4Runner, just closing the doors would make the water bead off the windows. Also since the surface of the window was so "slippery" the windows tend to stay cleaner longer. The main reason I stopped using Rain-X was because I'm a lazy-a$$. I might just use it again after all this discussion.

I *HAVE* used Rain-X ... I was just giving an option for those that like the effect but experienced wiper damage.

I think the thread got side tracked/hi-jacked. He's asking about the rear window. BTW I use Rain-X on all my windows and never had any premature replacement of wiper blades, and definately it works well, only really need to use the wipers during strong downpours and also they make no "rubber squeaking" noise when they are on!.

But back to the subject, even with Rain-X the rear window stays covered with droplets assumedly because the wind rolls above it and not on it. I know wagons/suv's have to have rear window wipers because the "reflux" of air from the exhaust makes it dirty but I wouldn't mind paying extra for a rear window wiper on a sedan. I don't get why it is not common?

Buff it out with a clean dry towel. I believe the instructions tell you this.

I use Wax as You Dry on the entire car after I wash it and it makes the water bead off the rear window...

I use Stoners

You might also try Stoners Glass Cleaner.

It also causes the water to bead and disperse from the windshield.

I have used it on all my glass surfaces, and it does aid in keeping the

glass surfaces relatively free from water bead build up once you get underway.
