Rear Wheel Wells

I was at an Acura dealership over the weekend looking at new TL's when I noticed that the rear wheelwells are lined with a black felt-like material. What's up with that? Maybe it helps reduce tire noise inside the car, but what is it going to look like after driving in the rain and dirt? Plastic or that "undercoating"
type material seems like it would be so much easier to clean. Those of you that have had your TL's for awhile, how does that felt look? Thanks.

This was covered in great length in this thread http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showt...ht=wheel+wells

The material seems to be holding up quite well in the month I have had the car. I think it is strong enough to weather (pun intended) the elements.

New Maxima has it too, new sound proofing material, now silent in rain (no longer transmits the noise to the cabin via the back seat area).

Exclamation Re: Rear Wheel Wells

So far, I have to agree it seems to do good job to prevent the noise comig into the car. But, after almost driving this car for a half year under this terrible winter season, my felt-like materials are kind of swallon... dealers said they're normal... what a routine answer I always hear from Acura...

I wonder if that material is a mold risk?

So, I made mine mildewed?? :goldfish:

For my understanding, we don't need to worry about this unless staying in the high-humid areas all years long...

I live in Canada and have had my TL since October. The material in the wheel wells is definitely sound dampening material. I was concerned about how it would hold up, but so far after one very snowy, salty winter season it looks just fine. I think it does reduce noise very nicely.

Has anybody power washed these wheel wells? I'm wondering what would happen if you tried to get all the junk out would it destroy this material.
