Rear turn signal bulb color

Hi guys,
I am looking to replace the rear turn signal bulbs with LEDs - I have a choice between 7440 which is 6000k (white) and 7440R which is red. Does it matter which one I go with? (since the housing is already red) Any suggestions? Also, does the fender cover need to be removed to reach the front turn signal bulbs?

Thank you!!

If they are same power, then red LED will be visibly brighter than white behind the car, since part of the spectrum of the white led will be filtered out by the red housing. Red housing doesn't convert light to red, it blocks all the other colors and only lets red pass through.

I don’t know if you’re planning on putting in resistors? But here is a diy from a good member Roger555, I haven’t personally done it, but you can read through it if you’d like. Good info….(this is so that you don’t have to install resistors at all points)

Thanks this is super useful. I was looking for CANBUS? bulbs but the Sylvania ones I am considering don't have built-in resistance.

What is your goal here for LED vs incandescent? Not seeing the gain in the rear signal since the lens controls the color, it isn't like the quicker rise time for a turn signal add value, LED costs more, and you will most likely have the added complexity of the load resistor or a higher cost bulb that integrates correctly. For a front bulb that may change light colors/behavior, sure...but the rear....what is the value?

It doesn't matter which color bulb you use. It will all come out Red if you have a red reflector. Clear, Red or Yellow bulb all equals RED reflectance if you housing has a red reflector in it.
