Rear Lip Spoiler Install, No Body Told Me.......

Hey! No One Said I Had To Change Out The Deck lid Spring. And No One said I Had To Drill My Trunk. I Thought It was held In Place With Sticky Tape. Man That Little Spring Was A Mother To Get back On. Still Havent Decided To Drill My Trunk Yet. I might Add More Sticky Stuff To It.
It Will Still Be Worth It.

It sure as hell doesn't hold up the headliner.

Don't worry about it. Just make sure you mark the holes carefully and start off a smaller drill bit designed to go through metal. Once you get it correct then, use the bit of the correct size. Be sure to use touch up paint on the exposed metal to prevent rust. One bit of advice I know from first hand experience on my Camry's lip spoiler is to have some else hold the spoiler in place while marking off all the edges with masking tape. This will help to make sure that your spoiler is centered on the trunk lid. The double stick tape looses its effectiveness quite quickly if you yank it off after adhering it if you make a mistake. Good luck.

Yeah, the one on my TRD Camry kit is only held on by 3M double sided tape also. It's never come loose so as long as you use alcohol to prep the trunk first and install at 70 degrees.

I guess Acura did not want to take that chance with DIY and dealerships doing the install

Actually after realising the quality of the double sided tape they used in headliner, Acura changed the design to make sure the wing does not fly off on the G35 behind you and stick on its grill like a moustach.

:lol1: Oh...that was too funny! As for my Camry's lip spoiler, well, it's from Toyota's own OEM body kit. However, it actually extends over to the vertical edge of the trunk to give it more surface area. I suspect this helps it a bit.

Agree with the methods noted above...the drilling part is actually a pretty easy operation. If you want the spoiler to sit flush on the lid and you want it to stay on for a long time, you've got to drill. The template makes for easy drilling.

By the way, changing the spring may not have been mentioned because it is not really necessary...the trunk still pops open via the remote even with the original spring (just does not pop so high).

If you don't drill it - just promise us you won't post again in a few weeks complaining that your lip did not stay on....unless you have some funny pics of it sticking out of the guys grill behind you!!

...drill it - it is no big deal.
