Cool

So are we talking Group Buy? I like the last one. It's powered from the car's Bat. Not some little 9v's that will always need replacing. I also like the side ones. But only for the rear. And only in black. You know that undertaker look.......

Wait...did I miss something here...are we really talking about drilling HOLES into the interior of your $36K+ cars to install a sun shade?! I live 2 miles from the surface of the Sun (in Phoenix, AZ) and there's NO WAY I would be doing THAT! I don't get it.

just a thought, why not use some automotive grade double sided stick tape and attach it to the upper black portion of the glass, maybe where the dotted grid is. THis would be easy to remove in the future, and may be better since you won't interfere with any airbag related components that may lie in the headliner.

Yeah, the two-sided tape is also in the wings. I'm just not sure it's strong enough to stay on the glass with the amount of tension in the roller. It's actually pretty strong.

The bigger issue is still how to install it on the rear deck. It looks like I will have to have it over part of the speaker. My plan to use my socket wrench didn't pan out. It turns out that the socket to hold a phillips bit required an adapter, making it too long. So I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and make a trip to Home Depot.

Any suggestions?

Sunshades Are Better Before You Install Them

I bought a manual sunshade a few years back for the A4 I had at the time and it was better in the box than in the car. If you listen to loud music you end up having to refasten the shade every few months to stop it from rattling (even with washers in place on an OEM unit), and as soon as it gets dark out you loose all your visibility and need to lower it. After a month or so mine spent 99% of it's time retracted.

Lesson learned, when I bought my TL the first thing I did was tint it.

Well I am a funny guy I'd buy the electric one and mount it at the top with some double stick stape somehow and have it roll top to bottom (evil grin)

Ps. There is a seller on eBay selling the actual sunshade removed from an RL Tech package for under 175 (looks pretty straight forward)

No way, don;t be lazy on the install...

remove the rear seat an c-pillars (about 30 minutes of work the first time) and remove that rear deck so you can get clear access. Mount it further back, on the flat part of the deck, behind the raised area with speakers... use proper nuts/bolts so you don't get that "loosening up" issue.

I don't know what still here is referring to with "straighforward" in retrofitting the RL sunshade into the TL. There's not even clearance in the rear deck, you'd likely have to cut a hole in the sheetmetal AND the rear deck to make it fit, and I have no idea how you'd wire it, as I think it's controlled by theECU/CAN system.

LOL...Yeah, I was hoping to not have to take anything apart. In my case, it's really supposed to be temporary, until my daughter is no longer rear facing, which is only another 6-7 months. Ok, Kennedy, you talked me into it. WTF.

I ment straight forward as in a good price for someone to try and mod... because I thought it was worth way more than what the guy is selling it for, I am pretty sure it wouldn't be that hard to wire it up, I mean as soon as you figure out what powers wat you just run a switch to the front of the car... there is space for it next to the vsa switch

As for the fabrication, I'd have to see an RL with it on to even speculate on that

That's gonna be a lot of work of cutting here and there. Tint should be ok. Make the car more complicated IMHO.

Did not email him sorry - i'm getting the windows tinted so for me having both seems kinda useless; and i'd rather tint the windows than buy this.

Sunshade = $100 + shipping; side windows unprotected
Tint = $120 and all 5 rear windows are covered

But another thought - this appears to use an RF remote; so if the seller does have one that fits you might be able to program your homelink buttons to control it!

5% tint makes the back windshield useless... that's dumb.

I have 35%, and it helps, anything darker and I'd be a serious law target.

If you have rear passengers frequently, (I occassionally carry my infant daughter in a rear facing car seat) the sunshade is priceless.

I like the RF idea... My avelectronics video switch remote is RF based. I'm gonna try that tonight!

I emailed this guy, turns out he's just down the road from where I live. I'm in Edison he's in South Plainfield NJ. I asked if we could meet up and therefore not pay the shipping and he said yes. I'm still talking to him, we'll see what happens.

So I was browsing the garage for info on removing the rear speaker deck to install the shade...WTF! I have to remove the seat cushions, seat back, the c-pillar and then the finally access to the speaker deck. LOL!!! All this for a $40 shade.

I should have stuck with the crappy, PITA, cheapo suction cup shades that keep falling off. Tinting within legal limits would have been an option, but it really doesn't block enough of the sun.

Better yet, I should tell my daughter to just suck it up, start growing faster to be big enough to be front facing. But then I'd be a bad dad. Maybe it's time to pick her up a pair of $5 baby sunglasses.

With my luck, the air bag will deploy while I'm removing the c-pillar. LOL!!!

It's not hard at all though. lower seat is one bolt and those latch lips on the bottom. Upper seat (back) is 5 more bolts (one each behind the headreast, 3 on bottom). C-pillars just pop off. Here's the secret, the part that saya "airbag" pops out about 1/2 in, but does not come all the way out ( imashed the shit out of one trying to get it out, $12 to replace ). once it pops loose, just gently pull the cover away.

Hurry up.
