re-installing AIRBAGs!?!?!

as many of you probably already know i got into a accident, and in the accident i had all passenger side airbags come out, now i need some info on how much it might cost to get them FACTORY re-installed not by some acura dealership cause i don seem to trust the one that i bought the car from, and they don like me there so thats another thing.
is it going to be safe if i get them reinstalled at a acura dealership because what i always thought was once air bags come out they cant be installed the same way by any regular mechanic, is that true in any way? THANks!!

im not too sure on this since the factory is overseas but sure if you call the acura 800 number they can probably get a tech to your location..maybe, like i said, im not sure. try another dealer or at least a decent body shop

I thought the factory was in Ohio?

Regards the dealer: Is there another dealer within reasonable distance? If so, go there. You don't have to have work done at any particular dealership.

You should install them only at the Acura dealerships, and no where else...

This is a safe risk factor. Factory is in Ohio, but they have nothing to do with your request.

Just go to another dealership for install. You can use a private mechanic at your own risk, yes he will install the airbags, but he will not the system to check them. You would like them to work, correct?

Actually, alot of bodyshops can install them. Hell I have installed them in previous years (havent had to on the TL).

Based on your area, there will be a few reputable shops, and they know what they're doing as they install airbags on a regular basis

did you have the passenger front airbag pop? If yes, you will need the entire dashboard replaced. I would have any airbag work done at an acura dealer, no bodyshops to insure that it is done correctly, and has the backing of acura incase in an accident, something should go wrong.

Also the factory for the car is in ohio, not overseas, and no, the factory cannot change anything to your car after it leaves.

You don't "re-install" airbags. You REPLACE them, right? The charge that powers them is spent once they have been deployed. You cannot "re-charge" nor repair them. They must be replaced (in order to remain in compliance with safety regulations). If you don't replace them and then sell it and the new owner gets into a wreck and airbags don't deploy properly, you can be sued for MILLIONS. When you sell a car you are REQUIRED by LAW to provide FULL disclosure. If you don't then fraud charges can also comes into play. If you are replacing them, get it done right by a dealer. Get signatures and paperwork for the effort and give that to the next owner when you sell it.

ya, they get replaced you don't repair them

they are so easy to replace, except the whole dash has to come out for that passeger one, the whole dash pad has to be replaced. If they are in and they fit right the SRS light isn't on, you have nothing to worry about.

Bodyshops have experience in replacing these so as long as you are a pretty good shop you should not have too much to worry about
