Question rattle issues?

Hello,

I own 2001 CL. I have numerous rattle issues, and I know second generation TL owners have had complained many times about rattles and squeaks.
Were those issues addressed in 04 TL? Is it more solid than the previous generation? Or about the same rattle issues.
Please be objective.

I love my 2004 TL, but it's got rattles! It rattles like a damn baby rattle. I'm diligent working with my dealers service department to track them all down ....

Other than that, 2004 TL is great.

My VIN is in the 23XXX's and I haven't had a rattle in 5500 miles. In fact I haven't had any problems at all... Drove over 1000 miles this weekend and love the car more with each mile.

I've had 3 TL's and not one had a rattle that couldn't be easily fixed. The only rattle was on the '02 TL-S near the AC vent on the pax side. I fixed it in a few minutes by pressing some felt material between the dash and the body frame near the door. It wasn't pretty, but fixed the rattle. The only way you could see it was if the door was open. I probably could have had the dealer fix it properly, but it just wasn't worth the effort. So far, my '04 is as tight as a drum and the only sound I hear is a slight creaking of the leather when I move around in the seat. I'm being very very critical of this leather creak since nobody else can hear it. Rattles just drive me crazy and I guess I'm lucky so far. I LOVE THIS CAR!!!

Creak in Overhead Console

I get a creak in my overhead console near the windshield as I pull out of my driveway.

So far, it hasn't happened on the road, so not a big deal for me and I am pretty picky.

I might mention if others appear with time. I only have about 1500 miles on it so far.

I have had mine for 3 weeks and 1800 miles. I love the car but I am having a few rattle issues. I have a most annoying rattle/creaking sound above my head to the left near the handle above the driver's side window. Anybody have this and know of an easy fix? (I hate the thought of taking it to the dealer and not having any transportation for such a small thing). Also I have a minor, infrequent rattle near map light on Driver's side. It seems to me that the only rattles I have are in the headliner. If it wasn't for these the car is as quite as anything.

I have some rattlinh issues as well. However, the rattles are no where near as common and distinct as those in my 01 CLS were. Also, no matter how much the car rattles, whenever I am walking up to it, I still smile and know there is no other car in this price range I would rather have

I have rattles also. One from the back deck that sounds like ticking, one from the drivers side seat belt adjuster that buzzes, and a creaking from the console were the gear shift lever is. Haven't been able to fix anyone of them yet. Guess I'll be going to the dealer.

I've got a very intermittent rattle that is coming from the round speaker on top of the dash on the driver's side. I can drive a few days straight with no rattle, and then all of a sudden it comes back, and then goes away.

I finally got the dealer to notice it when one of the service guys came with me for a ride. This rattle is very intermittent and comes and goes when it feels like. I travel the same way to work everyday, and sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. Go figure.

But at least I've isolated it. I can put light pressure with my finger on the speaker grill and the rattle goes away.

The dealer made note of it and I will have them address it when I bring in the car for it's first oil change.

Otherwise I love the car!

You know with the number of rattles this car has (I still love mine too) it might be helpful to have a sticky for a rattles only thread. This may help everyone to be able to track down their own rattles because of the reoccurring nature of them. Just a thought.

My TL took all of the rattles that everybody else didn't get...

Thankfully the dealer is working on them, one by one... hopefully they will all be taken care of before I'm completely ready for the funny farm....

I have a rattle in the same area. i've even had the car in 3 times already and the rattle came back. Per your suggestion I did the finger trick on the tweeter - it worked. So, not being satisfied, I removed the tweeter assemblly and drove around without it in. The rattle was present. If your rattle is like mine it is the gauge cluster and it will be one hell of a ***** to get fixed. i think you should try removing your tweeter to see if your fortunate enough to only have it be the tweeter.

Nip,

How did you remove the tweeter assembly? Is it easy to do? Does it just pull out or do you have to dis-assemble it from below?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

Nip,

The cluster rattle for me stops when I lightly pinch the top left side, when I let go it rattles inside again. Per the mechanic this is an SOB to get rid of.

To remove the tweeter just use a flathead screwdriver. Put it in and lift. Althought it appears there is a grill with a tweeter underneath it is actually one large assembly consiting of a plastic grill, plastic sides and a tweeter that is glued in from the bottom. I thought I was bending the grill, but there isn't one. Also, to put the tweeter back in involves lining up the notches in the plastic tweeter wall with the buldges in the dash assembly.

Simply put - use a flat head and pry up. You won't break anything. When you go to put things back together Acura made it fool proof to mess it up.

Let me know if you need more help.

Did you get your fixed? i have the exact same symptoms. I am getting frustrated to say the least. Sometimes it does it. Sometimes not. Everytime but once when I bring it to the dealer it is not doing it. It is a most annoying predicament to be in. If they were smart they would just order me a new gauge cluster already.

I've only got a coupel rattles now which the dealer is looking at. One is where the driver's seat belt attaches to the B pillar, and the other is a little rattle in the corner of the driver's door and dash area. Am looking into weather this is rubbing or not, but hopefully will get it taken care of soon.

I have had a whole slew of rattles

small plastic panel on the very tip of the windshield wiper stalk ... used a small strip of electrical tape to keep it steady... self-fixed

glove box.. strips of electrical tape around latch hook... self-fixed

storage pocket on passenger front door.. couple of strips of electrical tape.. self-fixed

ANNOYING rattle somewhere in center stereo console... no idea how to fix

headliner above driver ... push up on sunvisor.. temp fix..

driver door somewhere near lock button... not even attempted to fix..

very minor rattles but so many of them that I am quite frustrated to say the least... only problem whatsoever with car tho..

i just would have expected better quality for this much money

Just noticed a slight rattle today closing the front drivers door. I traced it to the headliner. When I push up on the headliner near the area where the sunroof cover fits behind the headliner, it goes away. Rather than take it back to the dealer, I just pulled down a little on the headliner board, and it made more clearance between itself and the rattle stopped. It's easier to fix stuff like this yourself than go back to the dealer. Most of the mechanics are deaf anyway, and don't seem to hear rattles like the owner of the car does. I guess it's from most of them listening to RAP music too loud all day while they work...LOL!!!

I bought my TL on February 16th and I have noticed two very annoying rattles since then. First is this squeaking/creaking sound right above my head when I drive, seemingly between the driver's side B-pillar and the sunroof on the headliner. It makes this quite annoying sound over the slightest road imperfection, and especially over any bump. Over at VTEC.net someone got the seemingly same problem fixed by having the dealer replace the "Run Channels" in the headliner. Secondly I have the even more common sunroof rattle when the shade is open. It's also quite noticeable when the sunroof is open in the tilted up position. Soon I am going to take my car back to the dealer for a 2nd time to look into these issues, because the first time I brought it in they didn't even have the "time" to look at my car even though I brought it in for a 9 am appointment on a Tuesday. So until then it's shade closed and I will continue to be an annoyed 2004 TL customer!

The rattle you have above your head sounds exactly like mine. If you find a fix or your dealer does, would you please let me know. I'll let you know if I find a fix.

Thanks

If thats the case I wish I went with the Nissan Maxima. While not as pretty it is still a nice car. My 98 Maxima was QUIET and never had a single repair done in 97,000 miles! I bought it used but had every service record of the car. It was a company car and maintence was done by the book, on time, everytime until I took ownership.
