Rattle in "ashtray door" location

Has anyone heard of a rattle in the flip up doors in the center console? my TL has but 985 miles in it and it has been rattle free until today. When I flip the door open the rattle goes away...is there any way to fix this? thanks in advance. :-)

yeah, I have the same rattle (and it started around 1300 miles). As much as I love this car, it does have it's issues. The dealer is going to look at it next week, I will post anything useful.

Try a thin strip of adhesive backed Velcro (the fuzzy side, not the hook side). Cut it into 1/16" or so and run it along the bottom of the door opening.

I had a rattle in the top flip door from day one. The rattle would go away when I opened the door. The service manager took it for a ride and agreed that there was a problem and ordered a new part. He said the two doors are one unit. It's been replaced, rattle gone.

I've got the same sort of thing with the passenger door pocket. When I pull the pocket out a bit the rattle goes away. Next trip to the dealer...

Mine does, too. I think it's typical. Noises like that annoy me when I'm driving. I'll get to it. Maybe I'll try RoadRage's suggestion or some version of it.

I had a buzzing from the vanity mirror on the driver's side. I stuck a small rubber "button" on the mirror. Problem gone. The "button" was one of those self-stick thingies you see inside kitchen cabinets to keep the doors from slamming closed. You can get them at Home Depot or Lowes

Springfield Acura in NJ. Service manager's name is John. Don't have his last name handy.
They've been great so far.

I had the same rattle in the top bin...went away when I opened the door, too. It started in the first few hundred miles. Now I'm at 2600+ miles and the rattle is gone.

I intended to have this checked out at my first oil change, but it seems to have resolved itself. Some of the parts of this car just seem to "settle" after some road time. My TL feels more solid now than it did when I drove it off the dealer's lot.

If only I could get rid of the usually faint but mildly annoying popping sound from the driver's shoulder belt (area of the pulley on the pillar)...

Thanks Silversmith.....Might have to take a trip down there since my dealer "can't find the rattle" even thought everytime I drive my car I hear it.

Thanks to all who have replied. I'll give it a few more miles and if it doesn't go away, I'll try the dealer on my 1st check-up.

I recommend one RR Journal, b.i.d, pro re nata, for what ails you.

Silversmith,

Did you steal my car? I have the same center console door rattle and I have the same passenger door map pocket rattle. I was planning on doing the velcro strip fix for the console. However, I have not heard anyone talk about the passenger door map pocket..I thought I was the only one...its so annoying. Let me know if you come up with a fix. THanks
Matt

Same rattle still at 5000 miles.....will take it into the dealer soon.

Guys,

Ditto here. Acura of Boston was going to replace the cubby area all together but the resonance worked itself out within about 2000 miles. RoadRage's NVH article goes into detail as to how these things resolve themselves. I don't want anyone tearing my car apart and leaving scratches and oil stains behind. The less the techs touch my car, the better.

I also have had the center console rattle as well as a rear rattle, passenger door rattle and driver door rattle, I have yet to go in for my first servicing. Anyone else have rattles in these other spots?

Count me in too ... I have the same center stack door rattle (opening it cures it) and the drivers side visor rattle ... jiggling it cures it too. I find it really embarassing when I try to "show off" the TL and I get these rattles in addition to the "ULEV" start "issue" and voice mis-recoginitions.

Guess I'll try the "do-it-yourself" approach the others have taken, it is simply not worth two days in the dealer for them to "fix" the rattles (one to diagonse and one to "repair")

Yeah, I have a couple of different rattles coming from the driver's door, these are loud, I mean loud. I have one rattle coming from the passenger's side door as well. Also, have a vibrating noise coming from somewhere behind the instrument panel(I think, it's hard to pinpoint). I picked up some tools to get the door panels off, I am going to try and take care of those myself. I will post pics once I get the door panels off, hopefully this will help a lot of us out since I see a lot of people have these rattles in the door panels.

RR - I am thinking of trying your fix, as I also suffer from the rattle in the upper storage compartment. It usually vibrates when I hit about 1500 RPMs as I am accelerating.

Where can I find the journal you mention? Can you give me a link? Thanks
