Random questions

I got some random questions...

1. Whats the life expectancy (# hours) of the headlights?

2. Is there any negatives to changing oil after the first 600 miles?

3. Where does one buy/acquire the service manual from and how much do they cost?

1. Good question... No idea

2. Can o' Worms... There are about 100 threads on this topic that can be found using the search function. Let the oild wars begin again anew... A great start:

FWIW, there are additives in the oil from Acura to begin with so I will be waiting until about 4k-5k and then switch to Mobil 1 10w30. There are many schools of thought on all of this... From change at 500, 1000 and 1500 and every 3k past that to leave in for 7500 and you'll be fine. READ the above and make your own decisions!

3. I "happened" upon one, but I've seen them for sale on Ebay (I think it went for about $80) As for where to go and buy one from a store... There are several places that I don't recall the name. Someone here will rememeber and post. However, when I checked those places, they didn't seem to have what I was looking for.

GOOD LUCK... Hope this helps.

1. Not sure on the headlights, but I some aftermarkets claim 2500 hourse
2. I dont believe there are any negatives to changing the oil, but why would you do that? I think it is already a synthetic.
3. I am almost positive the dealers will have one. If they dont give it to you for free it would probably be in the neighborhood of 5-10 bucks.

Service manuals are usually about $80 after shipping, etc. You can get them from Helm. (http://www.helminc.com) Neighborhood dealers most likely will NOT carry them, and they are definitely not $5-10.

2. The factory fill from Acura is NOT synthetic oil...
3. $10!??! If it were that easy, EVERYONE here would have one and RETS wouldn't have to post pages here and there. If you know where I can get one for $10 though, let me know, I'll make a killing on Ebay!

1. I only know what I was told at the dealership when I asked the same question. I was told they would most likely last the life of the car. Not sure I believe that. Hope its true cuz they are several hundreds of dollars each.
2. MANY treads on this subject. It's been beat to death. The predominating opinion seemed that you should leave the factory oil in until the MID says its due, even if that is 5 or 6 thousand miles. That's Acura's recommendation and for good reasons. To see the reasons, look up the thread(s).
3. Read your manual. The manuals available and an order blank are in there.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I think you should definitely change out the oil way before the MID tells you to, especially the first time. Yes, but the factory fill contains break-in additives, but as Road Rage has written, these can be replenished with a simple container of Maxlife from Valvoline. My oil is at 2700 and I'm a bit disappointed in myself that I haven't gotten around to changing it out yet. Good luck!

Oh crap, i thought you meant owners manual. MY BAD. When the dealer recieve the car is it already filled with fluids or is it dry? It would be nice to start on Synthetic. As far as using synthetic goes, Royal Purple?

The car should have all the fluids filled upon receipt. The dealer is supposed to check the levels to insure they are okay. Several of the oil gurus on this site will state that Royal Purple is equivalent to "snake oil". I agree, but you really should do your own research before deciding.
